hey people of the world, im relatively new to spearfishing, and have only just recently discovered what advantages a weight belt can bring. Could somebody please inform me on the general rule of how much weight the belt should pack ? i am roughly 82kg and would like a belt that is not a pain in the A#SE when surfacing or keeping myself affloat. Is ther a general weight i should look at so i sink moderately fast but dont need to apply so much energy keeping affloat when necessary. thanking you

hey thanks again andy.. i might add u to friends u seem to be quite helpfull. cheers mate

oh ok.. its always great to talk to someone else newish becus u would have had the same questions not too long ago.. i have only done about 8 trips over to the nearby island. unfortunately here in australia we have a large amount of saltwater crocodiles throughout the northern coast and i prefer not to risk it by diving off the mainland. There has been over 3 crocodile sightings at the main beach in the past months. The scary thing is im avoiding the crocs but at the same time by being at the island, im nearby the tiger shark breeding grounds for the east coast.

Here in the Azores, predators are almost non-existent. During the Summer months, Hammerheads migrate into the bay, however fishing in the Bay is off-limits. No real danger there.

well youre a lucky man. i guess thats what i get for living in the tropics, although the summers are warm and bright and make excellent fishing. so wer abouts is the azores on the map?

Its in the mid-atlantic. If you drew a line on the map from New York City to Lisbon Portugal, it would be right on that line about 1440KM from the mainland of Portugal. They are Portuguese islands. Summer months are absolutely beautiful. Winter is lots of rain and wind. Commenly over 100KMpH.

Wow thats amazing, you live in a small group of islands hundreds of miles away from nearby continents. thats awesome. what fish species do u target? ther must be a healthy fish population.

parrot fish, Amber jacks(have yet to get one, but I'm hoping), triggerfish, mackerel, barracuda, Yellow, Blue and Big eye Tuna(have yet to shoot one of these either). I've also shoot eels.

well sounds like u have many larger game fish... impressive. Parrot fish, cod, kingfish and a few trevalley are the only species worthy of catching which i have came across. Much of the reef here is protected. I have so far been able to capture a few smaller kingfish, bream and a cod. thanks for the chat i best be off now,
