On another occasion I was out with a different friend, when he managed to stab himself in the hand with his knife, whilst braining a mullet (don't ask). Off we went to casualty again...
.
Did that myself a few years ago. Very often mullet play dead then come back to life. Braining them doesn't necessarily stop them moving either. I actually carried on spearing for some time as my gloves seemed to be keeping the wound together. But eventually I noticed blood in the water and returned to shore. No ER for me though (I did consider it but figured they'd just clean & stitch it and couldn't really face all the delay and hassle as I had others with me). So, 1km walk back to the car holding the thing together & then a dressing taped to the hand. 65 mile drive home, then Dettol & a big plaster at home, followed by
"butterfly" stick-on stitches from Boots the next day &
silver impregnated plasters thereafter. I highly recommend the last 2 products (bit pricey from Boots tho') - the wound remained very clean and healed surprising quickly & cleanly.
Definitely worth carrying a first aid kit in your car (perhaps even on your float?), they're quite cheap & readily available these days, and consider adding some butterfly stick-on stitches/"Steri-strips"/"wound closures" to it - and
Celox if you think you might have to deal with major bleeding e.g. chainsaw/fire-arms/power-tool/tree-felling injuries - or you're "a bleeder"; my brother had a nasty incident working alone on a roof with a newly repaired cutting wheel, that had been left turned on - cut into his thigh and he almost bled to death (for the second time).
Supermarkets, Ebay & on-line pharmacists sell most of this stuff, amazon too apparently, e.g.:
