Water was already discovered on Mars, and several moons in the Solar system, but our own Moon was considered dry. Well, it is speculated that some ice may be hidden in eternal shadows of polar craters, and there is a mission that will crash a probe into that region early in 2009 to find out whether it may be the case.

However, quite surprisingly, water on Moon was now discovered during an improved re-examination of almost 40 years old samples from the Apollo missions! More details about the discovery can be found here: SPACE.com -- Water Discovered in Moon Samples

That explains David Couthard's retirement from F1 then, he must have the job as the driver rofl

Never tell never! NASA already has plans for Lunar X Games and published a design of a lunar sport stadium already in 1996:

More info at Space Future - Artificial-Gravity Swimming-Pool

As you can see, there is a swimming pool too, so nothing can prevent us from participating too. We just have to push AIDA to start lobbying NASA, so that freediving is accepted as a Lunar X Games discipline.

The only thing I am afraid of, is the avalanche of posts here on DB from (lunar freediving) newbies asking how much weight should they take with them to the Moon! Considering the cost of transport per kilogram, I'd advise them rather learning FRC and avoiding weights altogether!

can you imagine when Ryanair start the flights what O,leary will be charging if you go over if your baggage limit.

More data about water on the Moon start coming out. As for now they detected at least 600 million metric tons of water ice in deposits on the bottom of craters near the nort pole. That would already make enough water for a pretty big lake. Now we just need to put some roof over the craters, heat them up, and put some fish in them!

9.00 pm on Sunday the 7th of March :- Wonders of the Solar System presented by Professor Brian Cox .
BBC2 and BBC HD only .
The solar system viewed from the perspective of a physicist .
I like Professor Cox's presenting style , hopefully a good programme .

This is really interesting stuff--worth every penny of the cost of an unmanned probe. Perhaps we'll see more science out of space travel now that we're not balls-to-the-wall trying to get man to another planet and back.
