Hi folks!
I'm going to giglio island, italy, on may, 1st. The island is just south of elba, on the western part of italy. Looking forward to a week of freediving and relaxing.

Water temp. right now is about 15°C.

My questions:
1. What water temp will there be when i arrive?
2. What suit shall i take with me? My 6months old Eliossub tailor-made 3mm (jacket+high-waist trousers) or my 6.5mm Cressi Supercompetition? I ask because my car is relatively small :blackeye

Ciao

Hi Chefkoch

I went freediving at l'Argentario (which is 15 km distant from Giglio Island) two weeks ago.
As you said, water was 15°C.
I do not think it will rise till May, the 1st.
I used my Cressi 5mm suit and I was ok.
I'll go to Giglio Island this week end, so I will be able to tell you more next week.

But I think that you will be more comfortable with your 6,5mm suit.

Nicolas

Thanks for the info, keep me posted on the temp. Can't wait to be back on the island. Actually this is the place where i did my scuba training, and where i seriously started freediving. This is the 5th time i go there, but I'm still hooked.

You think there's a good chance for spearfishing this time? Hope to see some barracudas at capel rosso again!

Hello Chefkoch

I went to Giglio island last Saturday.
The weather was very nice but the water was still at 16°C.
In depth (20m) the temp fell to 13°C.
We all used the 5mm suit, except one who took the 3mm.

So for which suit you should take with you... I don't know what to answer.
If you are ued to diving in "cold" water than you can choose your 3mm.

We went to punta Capel Rosso. It is a really nice place.
See you.

Nicolas

thanks a lot, I'll prolly play safe and take both suits :)
Trip starts today around 11pm, I'll be on the island tomorrow morning....yeeeeeehhhhhaaaaawww! So glad to go there again :)

You're right about capel rosso, my fav. diving place there. Good currents, good fish, steep rock formations...Last time i was there i had a swarm of barracudas surrounding me, whilie i was chilling out at the bottom of the rope. They went round and round, looking at me curiously....that was awesome!
