Hey everyone!
Anyone heard what the water vis is like around Big pine key right now? I'm heading down the weekend. I think it might be "ok" I've been keeping up with the weather. Its always nice to hear from someone whos there though.
Thanks

Vis in the Big Pine area is heavily dependent on wind, also tide state and distance to the Gulf Stream. Check Welcome to Weather Underground : Weather Underground. For good vis (60-100 on the Atlantic reefs) look for the stream to be close, no strong winds for 3-4 days and a strong high tide about mid day.

Good luck and have fun. Its a great area.

Hey! Yea I live down here in SFL but not quite in the keys, nonetheless weve had pretty good weather down here the past few days and the visibility around here has increased a lot since we were having high winds a couple days ago. Should be even better in the keys I'd think!

sorry , but the vis. sux right now! all the snorkeling boats have been going to the gulf of mexico to take their charters, because the vis is so bad at the reefs. we went to the gulf yesterday because i heard there was 20 ft vis earlier in the day. when we got there it was like 5 ft vis. really really bad. the only way to get clear water from big pine area right now would be to go straight out about 15 to 20 miles till you hit the gulf stream, and work weed lnes and anything floating, the water is deep though, imaginations soar.
