Hey and good morning, :)

I've been searching around now for a while for a suitable monofin. I read a lot of good about the Freediver Wing Nemo by Waterway and came to the conclusion that it could fit best for my purposes.

I'm not completely new into finswimming but my active time is maybe six years ago. I used to be active in a swimming club where we often used fins. Recently I started swimming again (for my own) with my stereo fins and found by fluke this picture in the depths of the internet. I had never seen such fins before and was immediately fascinated. I knew that I definitely want to try this out. :inlove

I would use the monofin just for apnoediving, not bottles or surface-swimming. Indeed there are several lakes hereabout but they are all so muddy that you can hardly see your hands in front of your face and I take diving without any instruments there as quite dangerous because you can't really say wheres up and down. Its everywhere just dim brown around you.
So I can only use them in a bath but we got here several with 50m lanes. :) Ah and I nearly forgot: In the sea on holiday trips for example on Mallorca of course. =)

So now my question: Would the Freediver Wing Nemo be appropriate for me as a monofin beginner? Or would f.e. the Model 1 be the better choise?
My intention is to achieve long distances underwater, respectively to stay apnoe as long as possible. My fokus is not really on speed (which would be cool although :D ). Should I take therefore the soft or the middle blade?
And I can order neoprene foot guards with it... are these some kind of neoprene socks? :)

I completely forgot: My Persona. :) I'm 20 years old. 2m tall and about 85kg. Footsize 49GER =)

I would be grateful for any help!

Sincerely,

Stephan

P.s.: I hope I did not make that much mistakes! I'm (as you surely noticed :) ) from Germany and my eyelids are currently transforming into lead. :t

I've owned two Waterway Nemos - I think they are excellent.
One is on its third owner - the other it's second. great bang for the buck.

Okay, thank you! I think it will be the Nemos. :) But could you tell me something respective the stiffness suitable for me? Is Middle still okay for long distance diving? I can just choose between hard, middle and super soft. The last one appears as too soft for me. :D

@Fondueset: You got some very nice and impressive photographs on your page! :)

For a recreational fin usually soft or medium. My memos were hard and soft - I liked both.

Are there any noticable differences for me between soft and middle? Could you say what you, from your point of view, think would be most suitable for me? What would be the pros and cons of Soft compared to Middle?

Thank you for your answers! :)

I think you will be happy with either soft or medium, you will udjust to what you get. You will have more power with medium but will expend more energy at some point it becomes a personal preference thing, in my opinion soft is good for my hyper type fins, but for fins without angle like nemo or model 1 medium stiff can be a good choice to make up for the lack of hydrodynamics

Thank you all for your replys! I just ordered a Nemo with medium stiffness and a fitting Waterway bag. :) 230EUR gone. :( But sometimes you gotta do crazy stuff and a leap in the dark. :D

just wait till your paying twice that much for a hyper style fin with a 50/50 chance it will fit yourofl

Hey Stephen, have you gotten your fin yet? I'm ordering the same one you are -nemo with a medium blade- and if you've gotten it I'd like to hear what you think about it?
