Got a question... The siderails of my waterway bi-fins have started to come off, making it impossible to put them back into my OMER footpockets. The rails themselves are not that badly damaged, and I think that if I could figure out what type of glue to use, I could re-glue them to the blades. And that's the question... Does anyone out there know what type of adhesive to use for that?

Thanks in advance,
Aaron

hi,
you need one of the loctite glues, sorry i forget the number.theres only one that will glue both rubber and fibreglass without eating either of them.
hope it helps.

Same problem on brand new blades and no help from Waterway. I tried contact cement and it did not work. Have been babying them ever since. Anybody know anything more about loctite?

Connor

Answer: 3M Marine Adhesive Sealant 5200

(available in white and black, but use the black)

:)

Jim,

Is that from your experiance glueing just the blades rubber side rails back to the blades, not the entire blade to the footpocket?? I want to continue to be able to switch blades. Also, some materials 5200 won't stict to. If it does, of course, no problem forever.

Connor

Thanks for the imput guys! I've just done a bunch of searching here on the forums and it seems like others have used Loctite 406. I'm going to get some tonight and I'll let you all know how it works.

Jim,
I've heard of people using the 3M Marine adhesive to secure blades into footpockets, but like Connor, I'd like to be able to continue to switch blades.

Connor,
I emailed Bogdan from Waterway today, and he's sending me new rubber edges and glue for $19 USD. I'll keep you posted on how that works out.

Cheers,
Aaron

Conner and Aaron,

The 5200 is really a permanant fix, but not for the reasons you may think. It is possible to break the bond between the blade and footpocket after using 5200, but the problem is cleaning the residual 5200 out from inside the rails.

I think we all agree the 5200 isn't for use if occasional blade changes is the goal.

Jim

Loctite 406 is exactly what you want to use and is what Waterway use themselves. If you check any of the modified monofin threads I have posted you will see some waterway fins that I've made significant changes to and have used Loctitie 406 successfully everytime.
