Hi, Daniel, here is the info for the 7th Annual Bow River Snorkel in 2012:
COME OUT & SNORKEL THE BOW!
Sunday, July 29th, 2012
Registration: 9:30am– 10 am
Safety Briefing: 10:15 am Sharp
Mass Start: 10:30 am
REGISTRATION FEE: AUC Member: $15 pp (includes lunch)(free to join 1st year
with AUC or renew for $20 pp)
Additional Adults: $5 ea, kids free, all are welcome but please RSVP!
START LOCATION: Bowness Park: main entrance is on the South side of the Bow
River near intersection of 88 Street NW and 48 Ave NW. Watch for small
roadside “Dive Flag” signs marking the direction.
END LOCATION: Edworthy Park North. (Access off Memorial). Park in the lot
near Angel's Cafe--the public washroom can be used for changing.
LOGISTICS: Event volunteers (if available) will assist with a car shuttle
back to the entry point if needed. Recommend you pack a bag w/towel & dry
clothes to be transported to the finish for your own comfort. Travel time
estimate: approx. 1 hr up to 1 1/2 hours, depending on river flow.
SAFETY: Kayak will accompany snorkelers in their journey down the Bow River.
Hazards: Rocks & potential river debris. Buddy teams stay in main channel.
Please do not get close to any Bridge Pilings, other Boats & Floats or right
along the shore line. River Flow: Fast water - so do not try to stand up–
if uncomfortable—do not panic—just float feet first on back. Calgary Fire &
Police are alerted to this Bow River Snorkel event. Safety Team will monitor
progress & provide assistance if needed.
MANDATORY: Wetsuits or Drysuits, plus Mask/Snorkel/Fins/Boots/Hoods/Gloves
-contact your local favorite dive store for rentals in advance if needed.
Also suggest a water bottle w/holster—you do get thirsty on a beautiful hot
summer day!
