I know a few people on here do web stuff so am posting here to see who. We are looking to get a decent website set up for the business that we can upload and change pictures data etc, the template wont change often if at all but we may want to delete or add more pictures regularly. I have got quotes from local companies to do it and they vary from €500 -€5000 and i dont really see what the difference is between the two. I aint very techo minded but can usually manage the basics. Is this something any one on here can do for us, over the internet and that can then arrange to host it etc. If any one is interested pm me. We have the domain name jobsoxo Service Profile: Business Deatils, Notices, Products, Personal Contact, Customer Care jobsoxo jobsoxo jobsoxo services services services products products that is linked to a local services website but thats all. The domain is cosystoves.com but thats the link above.

I can do simple stuff (I can write HTML and am just learning Dreamweaver). I know quite a lot about it though - maybe give me a call sometime in the evening next week and we can talk it through

Hey Feargus,

Worked doing this stuff for a couple of years and quotes do vary drastically, this sometimes depends upon whether its a 1 man band doing it from home or a small business. Generally the small business will do it professionally, meet with you get expectations, draw up designs, review these with you, discuss functionlity and how much informaiton you want to chang, and then walk through the website use with you.

A few things that make this more expensive
  • An administration section, where you can login and upload images
  • This gets more expensive if you want, small images, big image, name decsription, if you want to have categories and sub categories, the more complex the organisation of the library and informationn the more cost involved.
You can always look at doing this manually yoursleves to start with, look at Dreamweaver, it has templates for images librabries etc, and you can learn to manipulate the look and feel of these.

Only thing I would say is if you want it to look professional for a business you will get what you pay for. I was looking at doing a very simple image upload for a friends and it would take me a good few days, and thats with no design, which would probably be £1000+, then you need to design etc and any management costs, blah blah.

Hope this helps, get yourself over to Salt free if you can at somepoint be good to go diving

Hi Feargus

Tim's advice is good - I'd recommend looking into ways of doing it yourself (I can talk you through how I do mine) and if that looks beyond you then basically find someone who can get it set up but so that you can access it yourself easily to update things. If you have to chase someone all the time and pay them for every amendment it could get very annoying.

Apart from that, pay what you can afford, it's probably the biggest marketing tool (other than word of mouth) that you'll have so it should be worth it

If its just to show off Your goods then do it Yourself. If its a full on commercial website with all the functionality required to take online orders and keep a perpetual inventory of stock etc. then go pro and you get what You pay for.

Like Sam said, if you don't want anything fancy then there's little reason why you shouldn't be able to do it yourself.

I'm not a techy, but I built and manage the website for my club. It's very basic, but they seem reasonably happy with it.

Thanks folks will follow up on those links and may give you a call next week sam.

Hey, One other quick though for an imbetween solution is to get a website company to do the design and build you a template for the homepage and image library. Get them to give you the files in dreamweaver, spend a bit of time learning about it and then you can maintain and update the site.

Mean you just pay for design, and hopefully look damn professional and you dont have to pay for the all the uploading and organsing work that double the costs or more.

Or post a message in a university to get a student who does it, to help you out.

Fergus: I run a software company here in Chile. I have sent you a PM. Cheers.

Cliff Etzel just redid mine after the hackers got hold of it, he uses wordpress.com and its really easy to use. i only became live last night so still need to add photos etc but take a look anyway Welcome to divasindubai.com and you can email him for information/prices at bluedigitalmedia@gmail.com.

i can recommended that you do NOT use Yahoo web-hosting though, utterly useless at customer service and not secure at all. (that's what all the web fundies have told me.)

He was really reasonable.
