weight belt destroys wet suite

You're right, different body compositions and different diving requirements explain the differences in weight per body mass, of course. Just sounds like a lot to me - I wear about 11 lbs (in salt, 9lb in fresh) to be neutral at 30' - I don't spearfish so those requirements would be different if I were, I guess. I'm a very bouyant person normally; I weigh 140lbs.

yea im nearly two of you. in fresh water with no weight on me and in just my swim shorts i BARELY can sink if i blow out every ounce of air in me.

well i read more about differences in wetsuits and if im correct my answer is getting a proper wetsuit... i read theres differences like open cell or closed cell on the outside... and also different fabrics... is there a specefic type of wetsuit normally used for freediving or say for use with a weight belt?

my theory is i have an open cell exterier wetsuit and that makes it easily roughed up by my belt.

Jeepers, you must sink fast with that much weight!
Hi JennyWren (we have a Jenny Wren in the next village). No, not really. As foxfish said, I only dive to 10m and often less. For really shallow stalking I could really do with a couple more pounds of lead to help me stay on the bottom. I should also mention that there are several areas where I differ from you, judging by your avatar picture: I weigh around 235lb and my body fat level is not as low as it once was, I have an unusually high measured lung capacity, i wear a 5mm spearo wetsuit and, as I said, I only dive to 10m.

I was pleasantly surprised to find myself gently gliding to base of some boulders on my last dive out. Usually I have dive down and hold onto weed. So probably a bit deeper than normal or perhaps I've lost a little weight (felt some cold water up the back of my tailor-made wetsuit which is usually the sign:D).

i also weigh 235lbs and wear a 5mm full suit. im going diving in about an hour and ill be trying 14lbs over the usual 10lbs... i know i need 23lbs to be boyant at 30ft (10% of my weight) but im gunna add a small amount at a time.

Here's a link for discussion on closed/split/open cell wetsuits:

The exterior is probably nylon with perhaps open cell neoprene facing inward. Check bodyglove website for specifications.
