Just got a Omar rubber weight belt and buckle. Big improvement no more sliding weights and having to use keepers. Weights stay put.

Rubber belts were a revelation to me too.

I found that some commercial ones were too weak and stretched if you had too many weights. They are designed for skinny Italians with thin suits diving deep in the warm med. I now make my own belts from strips of 5mm thick solid neoprens bought from the local gasket/seals company. They stock it in large sheets and cut me strips 50mm (2 inches) wide for next to nothing. Iuse quick release stainless buckles bought from my local scuba store.

Never tried the Omer belt but I have some Omer gear and I find it pretty good.

I got the beuchat marseilles belt and stick like a leech, belt aint goin nowhere. Rubber weight belt is a very good investment.

I also have an Omer marseilles and it is definately a marvel in rubber. I wear 16 lbs on my 32in waist pretty good. Anyone looking for a good belt should probably take a good look at the omer.

just a quick note IMHO on the Cressi Marseilles: it is very heavy rubber, checkered to grip too, more suited to 6Kgs and up. It is too heavy for anything less and the thickness/stiffness is uncomfortable with say 2 or 3Kg.

I need a new Rubber Weightbelt .
How long is the Omer Belt and the Cressi Marseilles and what difference is in the thickness?
Or is there another one whos better?

they are all very long, i have some HUGE friends and they fit. i would say both are good, i have two years and 100's of dives on the cressi version

Love mine! I have the rubber omer with plastic belt - was around $20 and has lasted me a long time and still looks new! The simplest upgrades can be some of the best :)

I've got a Mares rubber belt - far better than my original nylon belt for fit and comfort. The only issue is that I find that the buckle ends up tilting at a weird angle - it doesn't sit straight which makes me worry that it might come undone sometime due to the asymmetrical strain. Luckily I use a strap through my legs to hold the weight belt down so they don't ride up when I am head-down, and I pass it over the buckle of the belt for added security. Seems to work great so far. It's nice to be able to have my belt sit lower on my hips.

Hanada,

Belt thickness is related to the amount of weight you have to use. With a 6/7 mil monster of a suit that Azapa has to wear in cold water and the 20 lbs of lead that go with it, you need a thick belt, like the omer. Thin belts just won't hold the heavy weights nearly as well as thick. For diving in warmer waters with a 3 mil or lighter suit and 2-5 lb of weight, the thinner belts are more comfortable, easier to use, and useable with a wider variety of weights.

I have the Omer Blue Mimetic SS QR rubber belt.

I talked about this belt before in that it has a waxy coat on the rubber and does not release reliably.

I am now using a Spetton Marseillaise with Tin Man pinch weights. Very secure, reliable, and comfortable.

I have the Rob Allen Marseille belt. As with all Rob Allen gear I have seen/used, it is robust, has lasted well and is a pleasure to use. I carry 22lbs of lead. I accidently dropped my first RA belt (I now keep the end tagged under weak rubber bands, forum member Bill McIntyre though folds the end of his RA belt out though). I had a few slip-on & hammer-on RA weights (and some big yellow scuba weights) on my first belt and it was plenty long enough. My current belt has 4 large "figure-hugging" crescent-profile dive weights & a single slip & hammer-on weight (all from Portland Oceaneering) - they seem to use up a lot more of the belt, leaving me with just two notches - which is perfect as long as I don't put on a lot of weight. My point is, some weight designs use up much more of the available belt length than others.

Might be an issue with just the mimetic finish. I have the all black one and carry minimal weight on it (sometimes as little as 3lbs) and have never had an issue with not releasing when i wanted it to.

The paint is not on the Omer Mimetic QR teeth. I tried 2 other SS QR buckles brands with same results. The Omer belt has some waxy material that when the belt is stretched flakes off.

Tin Man's pinch weights do not take-up extra length of belt when mounted. I use 24lbs of lead for 46-52F water temps Northern California. I read a post by Old Man Dave and got a weight vest to get some weight off my belt. Very comfortable and great for hiking ocean cliff trails.

It's not on the teeth maybe - but is it not on the entire belt?

I have not used the SS buckle though - I like my plastic one :)

The Omer Mimetic just has the buckle painted. I ordered an Omer SS QR buckle rubber belt from LeisurePro and they sent me the Blue Mimetic instead. I painted all my SS QR buckles green camouflage using a combination of yellow and a couple of shades of green with acrylic outdoor paint from Walmart and drying in an oven.

Anybody out there using a harness? If so, what has been your experience in its use, where do you get one and/or how do you make it.
