Weighting
Hi there all. Trying freediving this weekend for the first time during an abalone camping trip. Curious about the weight required (vs scuba diving). Is there any easy way of determining the best amount of weight one should wear when free diving?
We will be wearing our scuba wet suits...
I wear what it take for me to float at eye level, that's usually just a couple of lbs less than with an AL80.
My rule of thumb is a kilo of lead for each millimeter of wet suit and whatever else you have on. Haven't had any problems so far.
Believe I have read that in a freediving book somewhere (Umberto's book?) that we can be in waters for 2hrs....is that so??
You should start out with about 4-6 lbs less than you scuba dive with. Be ready to adjust the weight when you are on site.
That is cylinder and BC dependent.
so the remedy is in freediving you should always be positively buoyant at surface. Because no matters how hard you work at depth, you shouldn't struggle at the surface where you should be recuperating...
