Hey guys,
firstly i am sorry for bugging you again with this stupid weight question, but as a total noob I need to know how much lead to take with me deeper down. On my holiday I spend 80% time snorcheling and diving to take pictures of the beautiful things down there. But those of you who have tried taking pictures underwater know how difficult it can be. I do have some excellent pictures already but sometimes I wish I could stop (levitate) in the water and take my time. So I bought myself a weight belt and just need to know how much weight to put on it. Use only a skinsuit overall, camera with plastic case, snorchel, fins and that's it. Im 93kg heavy and 1,92 tall if that plays any role. I would prefer a slightly possitive bouyancy to negative one (meaning I would rather go up a bit then go down :) )

Thanks for any suggestion, K

AND IT IS SALT WATER (almost every summer two weeks around Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt)

You will be easily able to buy lead in Sharm in case you do not have enough, so do not worry about that. In your place I would take only an empty rubber freediving belt and rent or buy the lead there. You will see after the first dip if you need more or less.

The salinity is only slightly higher in the Red Sea than in the Adriatic that you may know, and the buyancy considerably more positive than in fresh water that you probably dive home. On the other hand you may not need any wetsuit there for fun diving or photographing, or just a short thin one. You can also adjust your buyancy by exhaling some air when needed.

puk333,

Your weight is one important factor. However, there are other important things like the thickness of your wetsuit and the depth you are going to be diving at...

Getting the weights right takes some time. People usually get them fine tuned as they go along, and end up removing weights as they improve their technique...

It might help you to have a look at some other threads, to have an idea of how much weight people use.

Thanks for the replies guys, but could you give me a rough estimate of how much to take for the first dive so that I do not to end up anchored to the bottom ;-) The wetsuit I have is neutral and has only 0,3kg and doesn't add up to my total weight in any way (nor in the bubble thing locked in the suit).

Unfortunatelly never measured the depth of my dives, but got to the level of the divers around me (but they were noobs I guess) So max 10meters I would say.

And yes, I was thinking about the weight change during the dive as I let the air out on the return trip to the surface (thus being even heavier, no?)

So please, any number would be helpful. Thanks Thanks Thanks :blackeye

In 10m you should be still positively buaynt for safety reasons, so 3 to 5 kg should be OK. No wetsuit or just a thin one, being slim, diving with less than full lungs - take rather less. If you dive on FRC, you'll need even less. But as I told, do not bother with bringing too many weights with you on the plane - you'll be always able to get some from any local dive shop.

Thank you all. Will take 3kgs and in case I need more will ask in the local diving shops.
