new to free diving and spearfishing ill be going on vacation to southern Spain in a week and would like to know what weight I should carry on my weight belt will be only diving to 10 meters . I weigh 175 pounds and im 5 foot 8 inch and will be diving with beauchat mundial competition plastics without wetsuit.

That problem requires a lot more info. Body density, lung size, water density and a few other variables but taking some presumptions and experience, guessed that six pounds will be close to neutral at ten meters and very easy to check. BTW, I enjoy it when someone mixes measurement systems.

Without a wetsuit, I'm neutral at -6m or so.

At -10m I'm negatively buoyant / sinking pretty good. So for safety I wouldn't take weight to -10m, I'd just enjoy sitting / standing on the bottom and enjoying the view.

For resorts with pools and for shallow snorkeling, I usually take my neck weight (gets some strange looks at the pool bar). 5-6 lbs works fine for -3 or -4 meters.

You could get away with a few lbs, but it's much safer (and way less tiring) if you float at the surface.

Without a wetsuit, I would recommend no weights until you have a chance to properly check your buoyancy and adjust the weight accordingly. How much muscle you have will play a bigger part than how much fat you have. I'm 5'-11", 190 lbs with a gut and I sink with a 3mm wetsuit in fresh water. I dive 0-3 lbs in saltwater. I have a friend, about the same size as me with the same wetsuit and he dives about 6 lbs freshwater and is still buoyant. Everyone is different. You will just have to check and see, but always start with less weight. Its better to be too buoyant than too heavy.
