i ate my first carp and well i was surprized it wasnt that bad you got the tiny little bones you have to watch out for but fried up in a pan with some veggie oil and some seasoning and a pepsi and your set to go :friday

Well you got bigger balls than me my friend! rofl

Seriously though...I'll have to try a small one sometime...I know alot of South African's that eat them all of the time.

Dotey Failed to mention - this carp is Smoked from Walmart. At least that is what he just told me- I'll try it though too.

Wild Carp ARE commercially netted and used in several different ways...I wonder if the "Wal-Mart Carp" are farm raised or Wisconsin "home-grown" fish?

Hmmmmm...Wal-Mart selling Carp! roflNow thatsa' funny!

the package says wild smoked carp they would taste the same with the ones we shoot if when we cut them up you have to cut the mud vein out thats were you get that nasty taste so maybe we get a few little ones and cook them up some time scotts got the smoker

The factory where I work has a bunch of Polish workers, I was talking to one of them a few weeks ago about carp, it's the fish of choice for them even for Christmas dinner

thats crazy i mean yeah it aint too bad but i wouldnt eat it all the time

The mudvein is important. Also they probably have different ways of preparing it, slightly different kind of fish possibly, and the water quality/quality of food they eat is different. The rivers in Europe are clean and clear enough that you can spear in them. I don't know of any such place around here, you certainly wouldn't catch me trying to stone carp in the Wisconsin! Oh well to each their own.

I tried it- It was ok- I'd rather not have that taste in my mouth again. I think I'd rather eat glue (Ah......the Good Ol' Days)

yeah i sure wouldnt eat it everyday fo sure but it wasnt to bad i mean if i was starving i know i would make it on that

I suppose you've talked about this prior.... but I've read and seen on news reports the danger of eating wild carp due to chemicals in them. This has been a problem among various ethnic groups in the US.

Lol poor dotey. That was a hit below the belt. At any rate, yea carp live for a long time, are hardy, live in polluted waters, and eat of the bottom where these pollutants tend to accumulate. Otherwise they eat small bottom dwelling crustaceans that filter feed, hence gathering all the pollutants in them, and then giving them onto the carp. Idk whats worse though, carp or muskie. I dont eat muskie ever though.

i dont know but i do know a omaha restraunt that only serves carp and ocasonaly they buy some from me if call in advance and catch quite a few

I woudn't say that European rivers are clean - maybe up in the Norway and so, but for sure not here in Central Europe. And - carp is not a river fish anyway. And visibily in the fish ponds where the carps are farmed is about 1 or 2 ft. I wouldn't even try to spear there. :)

Anyway - here is the advise for making taste of the carp better. Here in Czech we also eat carps, so we know one or two things about cooking them. ;)

So - cut carp into portions and place them in the milk overnight and then take it out and prepare as you like it next day. The milk will draw bad smell and taste out of meat and it will be better.

Bon apetite.

really wow that is neat i will have to try that thanks for the tip

I think not. I tried to find some info about it now and it seems that we don't do this. I will have to ask around.
(I always got carp cut in the portions already. :) )
