I thought I'd start a club thread, now that we have 16 members! :friday

I know we all use the Dorset and Bournemouth forums as well, but thought it'd be good to use this thread for arranging meet-ups / finding dive buddies / organising bbq's etc and keep the other threads for fishing reports.

Thanks everyone for sending in your details for the database. I hope it will make it easier for people to find dive buddies during the summer.

Thanks also everyone who came to the Spyglass and Kettle meeting on Friday a couple of weeks ago, without that none of this would have happened.

Anyway, we chatted a bit about making Tuesday nights a regular club dive night, and suggested we choose the spot depnding on conditions, and if it was hopeless, just have a pint and catch up in a pub somewhere. I know not everybody will be able to make this every week, if at all, but there are enough people now that we could probably get a handful along each week. So who's gonna make a suggestion for a spot for next Tuesday?

Hi Rick and everybody

Firstly, well done Rick! This looks like the first of the official 'Wessex Spearfishing Club' emails............and i like it! Really good to see so much interest in this. Seems like we have the right man steering this crazy ship, taking this forward. I, and everyone else i'm sure, really appreciate the time and effort you're putting in (and no doubt going to put in in the future). I'm sure its going to lead to more friends, fish, knowledge and fun for everyone, not to mention giving me a slightly more valid excuse to go to the pub on a school night.:friday

Secondly, Matt.....well, in the beginning Matt said he'd never get a proper suit, then he said he didn't see the need for a weight belt, or dive knife, or fish stringer, or torch. He's still using his US navy seal issue fins but it won't be long til he has a pair of 'ice' fins.......the next step is a boat. He swears blind a boat is going too far, but he said that about mobile phones. Currently he thinks i'm a sad internet chat geek when i mention the forum despite already associating with at least 3 of us and my constant rant about photo's, reports, BBQ's, etc.etc. I'm sure he'll have no objection to his name on the list but i think it might take a few Wessex Club get togethers and dives before he really appreciates the value of BSA membership and DB. correct me if i'm wrong Matt. I've just realised i've known you for 20 years!!!!!!

Anyway, good idea to start a club thread, in fact i might just copy and paste this on there so my thoughts are on record and maybe someone not lucky enough to be on 'the list' might want to hop onboard.

As for tuesday nights, unfortunately for me i'm busy til at least 8pm for the next 6 but after that i'm in (and of course if you go to the pub after i'm sure i could make it down for 9ish).

Right, thats enough from me.

As said above, well done on the organisation Rick.

Next Tuesday is probably good for me, suppose we'd better see what the weather has planned...

Looks like we have a 6 knot southerly wind forecast for Tuesday evening, veering southeasterly later so not really ideal, but could be worse I suppose...

It's probably a harbour job unless anyone has any better ideas?

Well done Rick getting this off the ground. Can't do next tuesday as i have a meeting in Northampton all day:head:head:head

Hi Tuesday evening would be ok for me if it would be ok to join you. Do I keep an eye on this page or somewhere else for the details? Cheers Steve

Hi steve, PM me your e-mail and mobile number and I'll include you on the e-mails, but yeah I'm trying to get this thread going as well.

Sooooooooooo...who's in for Tuesday? Wind Guru says it's going northwesterly, so that could be good for either Portland area or Purbecks...I guess it depends on who can make it and where they come from...

I am a total novice here and dont realy know the spots to meet but Tuesdays is good for me if you could give details etc.

It’ll be a good plaice to meet a few of the guys if you’re free?

Hi Broughy,

I'm goin somewhere tommorow night - meet up at my place about 5.30? Head to Lulworth or Ringstead?

Paul

Sounds good, whats happened to everyone else ? looks like light NW wind so should be nice.

Chaps,

Here's the plan. We're meeting 18.30 this evening at Lulworth Cove car park. There's no mobile reception there, so we'll be as close to the ice cream shop / visitor centre as possible.

I know lots of you can't make it, but if you can, then please pop along! Conditions are looking ace...

See you later!

Rick

sorry cant make it chaps, have a distance problem making evenings a problem.
Hope to get to meet a few of you soon though
Safe diving

First club dive - Lulworth Cove

Well, last night saw the first of (hopefully) many Tuesday night club dives. Paul Smith, Broughy, Silent Night and myself met up at the Cove, with Flyflicker turning up for moral support! Thanks, John.

Viz was not as good as we'd hoped given the wind, about 4 m in places but still milky, also a slight swell running.

There were bass about, but they were few and far between and the one I saw refused to come in range, and silent night let a couple swim under him with his gun unloaded (he won't be doing that again!).

Still it was a lovely dive with a great sunset over Durdle Door as we got out of the water. It's still early for the fish, but they are around!

Paul had a nice mullet, and Broughy did well braving it in his surf suit! The pub afterwards was legendary, serving up massive portions of stodge.

The general feeling is that it's great to have the club going again, and hope more people will be able to make it along in future.

A small first gathering, but a start - glad someone got something and seeing bass is more than half the battle -- Well done again Rick for the organising :)

PS> my knee survived the ordeal, but not the ladies blushes who didn't know I was on the cliff path as she had a quick pee!!!

Hill All

Looking forward to coming along with broughy to your next meeting. How's the twins Chris?

Cheers Joe Hart
