I am trying to get into spearfishing in the area and looking for help. I have experience in snorkeling & Scuba as well as a wicked home brew bitter. Is there anyone out there who could give some advice & practical support. I have no partner to dive with :-(. Mark

Mark,

I'm in a similar boat to you. I have a gun and some old dive kit. I've only caught cuttlefish and a wrasse (before I knew that was frowned upon and they aren't great eating!).

I want to get into spearfishing more seriously, so if you are up for a trip, I'm in Bridport.

The "Usual Suspects" crew run out of Exmouth. Crazywind009, North1 and myself. PM anyone but me. Off to Florida for a month!!!! Good luck

Hi, Bridport would be great as I am in Crewkerne, you are ahead of me as I have very little equipment, just getting goggles & fins & have never fired a speargun let alone owned one! The next few weeks are hectic & I have never swum around Bridport so know nothing about the sea conditions or where to forage but willing to learn if you want a complete novice. Let me know if you have not been put off if not might be worth meeting up. Mark

Hankerton, I think I may have responded to the wrong post, I would be interested in diving with you but the next week or so is difficult for me. I am based in Crewkerne the so Bridport would be great now the tunnel is open. I am not sure of the tides or the best place forage. It may be worth meeting up some time. Mark

Mark,
That sounds good to me. I'm also fairly busy, and most weekends are booked up, but free evenings.

What kit do you have? Even though I have a gun and some snorkeling kit, I'm also an amateur. I haven't dived around bridport yet, got a few spots in mind to try.

Let me know when you might be free, then we just need the sea state to be right.

Cheers
Andrew

Andrew, I am the opposite, work late most evenings (6:30) but can do some Wednesdays, short evening dives or weekends, I have just got wetsuit for Scuba diving & am in the process of getting fins mask etc having always rented. Now have found some one to dive with I will get a spear gun. how are you set up over the next few weeks? If you want to discuss we could meet up one evening in Bridport, I havn't been down there for a while.
Mark

Sounds good to me. Do you want to meet for a beer and look at when we could actually go?

I could do Thur this week, or any evening next week. Could meet at the George in West Bay, although may be busy with tourists. Otherwise could do Lovers Arms, its close to the route I guess you would come in on.
Cheers
Andrew

Andrew sound like a plan, I do not know either so would take your recommendation, I will be looking to eat as well. I could probably make it for 7:30 if that's any good, my wife will be tagging along for the food, she is not interested in the foraging but is looking forward to the results. Mark
