Wet Suit?

Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying a 3mm Omer open cell. Its the two piece farmer john w/a hood. Omer Dahlak mimetic. I figured this is a good compromise between my summer Wisconsin spearing, and my Hawaii spearing. Any comments or thoughts? Anyone here have experience with a farmer john? Ive never used one and would kinda like to know what they were like before I bought one. Would I be able to use it to keep me warm at this time of year? (With gloves and booties obviously) Thanks for the help. :D
 
search the forum for wetsuit and You'll find why I write this:
- No farmer Johns
- get a custom made
- read up on thickness and temperatures
 
I think I will be fine with the 3mm open cell, but when i went to eliossub.com the only way they offered to make customized wetsuits was if it was a "farmer john". In addition I would like to keep the cost of the wetsuit under $350.
 
elios suit should all be available with long pants or farmer johns- but for sure get the open cell! if you do decide to go with the farmer john and don't like it- cut it off at the belly button area. 3mil should be able to keep you in the water down to about 54 degrees.
 
I think I will just get the omer then. It comes with the open cell, and is cheaper than customizing. Thanks for everyones help.

I can't think of where You got the idea hat elios only makes farmer johns, they wouldn't even suggest that to a freediver asking for a advice. - And with $350 You can get yourself a mighty fine custom made suit from elios worth every penny.
Of course, You can try on the omer and - if it fits You perfectly - get it, but if it doesn't then the money's wasted.
 
Im 18. My dad grew three inches when he turned 21. He is also quite a bit wider than me, and undoubtedly I will fill out a lot after HS and college. Im not sure how much they cost, and when I went to the site it said they came in farmer john and some other two piece suit, if this is wrong please inform me, but from when I could see in the customization section, that was all.
 
just throwing it out there for you to see but maybe try out spetton usa they got some pretty good suits for the money and i have been in water were theres ice to all summer long with my 5 mill open cell and there prices aint that bad again just throwing it out there for ya to look at
 
Okay, so basically after a lot of research its come down to this. Im going to buy a suit now, and then in maybe 5 years, buy a customized ellios probably. In the meantime Ive decided that I like/have heard the best about omer, and hammerheads suit the "adaptation". Any input between the two of these?
 
I would like to get a "Adaptation" - Just make sure you get the open cell and not the reversible. The Hammerhead would set you apart from the Rest of US- Alot of us have Elios, some with Omer, Spetton or ScubaPro.

I think it'll come down to PRICE. What do you want to spend the money on.
 
Thanks guys. After talking to all of you Ive come to a happy medium, Im going to buy a Picasso I think. Ordering it in about another week. Look forward to using it in the water with all of you!
 
The main thing is you got yourself a freediving suit... enjoy it :)

If you start to grow vertically and there's a farmer john (straps on the shoulders) then you can cut them if the suit gets too short as mentioned earlier. I have a Picasso 5mm that was a great suit for a few years. If you dive lots, the cells will collapse after a few years anyway and you'll be wanting to get into a new suit before you know it!

If you dive lots, the cells will start to collapse in just about any suit you get. Neoprene tends to get thinner with a lot of repetitive compressions, but you will most likely destroy or replace a suit before it gets thinned down.

Knowing me its going to be destroyed. I wear things pretty rough, but with me splitting time in Hawaii and Wisconsin over the next couple years the wear and tear should be distributed between my skin suit, and this one. Thanks for all the help, AGAIN, and I look forward to being able to dive late into the year with all of you. (Or at least the ones that manage to stray off into Wisconsin for a bit!) :friday
 
Yeah not to dump on any suit in particular! My Picasso is 8 years old I think, and still works fine :)

And you can't go wrong with jimdoe!
 
No, you cant. Especially with shipping. On stuff like this it reduces the price a lot. I used to get all my stuff from leisure pro... well I'm liking the looks of The Spearfishing Store so, heres to that and to jimdoe!
 
Now Im seeing a post where there are 5mm, full body, two piece suits, with open cell, customized, with camouflage being sold by "Diveskin" which only cost $189. Thats crazy. I don't want to spend more money than I have to on a wetsuit that I'm going to outgrow, but why spend lots more money for a wetsuit that isn't going to fit as good right off the bat? Anyone else's input on this?
 
I agree- I've heard good things about DIVESKIN. Give it shot, I'd like to see how they are made- In Person. For that price- you really can't go wrong. Remember these suit are stretchy so, it may last longer than you think.

I guess they get them made and shipped to you in about 2-3 weeks.
 
Yea. I looked into it, and it turns out you have to pay $65 shipping, and that the suits arent exactly the greatest. Ive got the cash, and I want to be the warmest person in the water this year, and I want to be able to dive early in the spring, and late through the fall, so thats why I made the decision on the beuchat and the picasso.
 
+ Jim's a good guy and will look after you, and lives in the US. There's something to be said for that.
