wetsuit cut.

hi guys

been dealing with a wetsuit manufacturer that is interested in building freediving specific suits, they have been strong in the scuba market for some time.

and they wanted to sort out the cut of the suit.

1. Preformed or Anatomic cut is prefered by freedivers?
2. what do you consider to be the difference between the above 2 choices?
3. arms up or arms down
4. long johns or pants

can somebody give an accurate description of the difference between anatomic cut and preformed cut?

doesnt seem wetsuit threads get alot of attention, neither this thread nor the imersion Freediving Spirit thread have managed to get any comments????

we have a pretty good chance for another manufacturer to make dedicated freediving suits, asking for some input and we got nothing??? come on guys (and girls)!!!!!!!!

Maybe ask some other manufactures that are making freediving suits.
The option of long johns or pants would be nice.
It all depends on a lot of stuff.

Are you able to reveal who the manufacturer is?

Spearfishing or Freediving Specific Suits? What would the outer skin be? What do You consider to be the difference between Preformed or Anatomic Cut?

thats what i am asking everybody! what IS the difference between the too, for example Elios states that there suits are anatomi cut not preformed and these suits seem to be the flavour for freedivers so i wanted to know the difference.

for example i would consider the Cressi technica preformed as the arms and legs are prebent and the seams are positioned in sucha way as to have the legs and arms in a set position. where aas the elios suits dont do this they look relatively straight.

elios suits can also be ordered for arms up or arms down cut as well.

asking another manufacturer does not really solve the problem, as that is what THEY think the market wants, where as by asking the market we get a more accurate answer of what people want.

as for the MAjor company producing no i cant give that name up. they'll release the info to the public when the suits are at a level that they are happy with. its still early days yet but hopefully have thing s up and running by Christmas.

So far specifications are:
- 3mm SCS smooth skin outer opencell inner
- smoothy seals on wrists and face
- integrated hood
- 2pc
- pants not longjohns (not finalised yet)
- CUT???????


hmm would have though t we'd get more people giving their opinion on something as personal as a wetsuit,but maybe it doesnt matter that much?

Not sure about depth freediving specific suits. I look to the Triathalon Market to learn about what makes a giid swimming wetsuit.
 
Lining:
Are they not gonna provide a choice in lining? I wouldn't buy a suit that is smooth skin on the outside, well not at the moment anyway. If they provide the option of making both completely open or closed cell suits, or a bit of both they may broaden their market.

Cut:
I think if they aren't making a custom suit then preformed may be the way to go. If a suit is made to measure then I can't see why it would need to be preformed because it would be such a good fit. I think preformed is a way to compensate for the fit not being 100% because it is off the rack and therefore give greater movement and flexibility for a suit that doesn't fit as well as a custom.

Defiantly 2pc and integrated hood.

If its open cell no need for the seals. If it is closed cell then make the seals open cell, because that seals better than anything else, except silicone.

There is probably some more stuff, but I can't think of it....

smooth platinum lining on the inside, so it slips on with just water. my custom open cell oceanos wetsuit has it and all my friends struggle to get theirs on. i just wet the inside of the suit and it slips on super smooth and easy. all my friends are jealous.at 189.00 for custom cut suit. even with shipping from greece(cost me 40$us)it was a good deal i think, .most off the rack stuff is more than that. my buddy has a beauchat suit that is really nice also.i think if i was trying to market new wetsuits, i would think about offering options, especially in the color patterns, people like cool, different patterns. elios has some cool ones, beauchat's new pattern is really really cool. how about red camo? thats what i want. so i dont get hit by a boat. red disappears at like 20ft deep. too
 
maybe wasnt really clear enough on what they are doing.

they are building a performance Freediving suit, NOT a spearing suit, Not a recreational focused suit.

suits for spearfishing etc are already sorted by this company, so no problems there. but its the Smooth skin performance suit that is of most interest to this company.

Spearfishing and Freediving require very different things in suits.

thanks for your opinions guys but i think we are talking about different things, never mind, i'll work it out some how. time to start PMing Freedivers i think!

If you look at top freediving athletes they come in alot of shapes and sizes So tailormade-suits will always be a winner. My opinion is that one suit will never do everything, but if you would like the optimum for depth-competition then go for maximum glide, max flexibility, and very important minimum buoyancy. (thin suit with dense neoprene.) What doesn`t matter that much to me is warmt, durability, and if it easy to put on. I`ve just ordered a tailormade suit from Elios now. 1,5mm (lining on the inside), smooth on the outside. Dense neoprene (daiwabo.) Integrated hood.

thats more like it! yep i agree that tailor made is important and will be available, what they are trying to do is ensure they have the correct shape and style of suit.

i agree that for Max performance (as this suit is) that ease of putting on etc isnt important, but most important is, fit (to reduce any drag areas), (tight Fit). maximum flexibilty for best stream lining and maximum glide! thanks for the reinforcement. the densist neoprene is an interesting observation and i tend to agree!

strange how yamamoto 45 and 39 are so polpular even though they are very compressible and have huge change in bouancy at depth. comfort and warmth i guess from these neoprenes is what makes them attractive.

They are very warm and flexible yes, but with superthin neopren I don`t flexibility will be a huge problem. Most of the triathlonsuits are very buoyant and they use this kind of neopren. Personally I don`t see why an Orca Apex2 would be the best choice for depth. With all that buoyant neoprene it should be warmer, and with the zipper it`s not the most flexible either. My 3mm Elios Freedown is alot more flexible. The new "FREE" suit is probably very good but expensive. I have picked up that the CNF-experts like the tri-suits because they have somekind of panels on the forearms that gives extra grip. An easy solution I`ve seen some swedes do is to have short arms. The neckseal is also a problemarea on the tri suits. A hood is a very simple solution that works perfect for me. Having a complex neckseal and a swimmingcap is not an easy sollution if you ask me
