Hey ppl need some advice on new wetsuit and gear, im after a really warm and comfortable wetsuit for spearfishing water temp is about 10 degrees C here and its ok but winter is right around the corner and the water temp would nearly get into the minus zone , im also after best possible pair of fins for speed and a decent mask with really high visibility, also any info on good gloves and boots would be appeciated to if anyone has any info it would be very helpful cheers!

A 5mm open cell inside suit from Omer, Cressi etc will do. An Elios made to measure is probably the most highly rated with a MTO Diveskin the cheaper alternative. Something like a 3mm vest can be worn as well if the temperature plummets. Not many people opt for thicker than 5mm but 6.5mm is available. Boots depend on your fins. 3mm socks will do but 5mm might be needed if you get cold feet. You might just fit 3mm and 5mm in the same fin but not ideal. Fins come with plastic, fibreglass or carbon blades. You need to research this a bit to get the right ones. Also footpockets for the fin blades vary a lot and again depends on your personal feet shape and your preference. Trying before you buy would be a good idea if possible. Omer Alien seems one of the most popular masks at present. However masks like fins depend on lots of factors. No good having a fancy mask if it doesn't fit you.

I use a 5mm Immersion open cell inside, cammo nylon outside suit for 10 to 18 degree water temp with a 3mm vest under for 8 to 10 degree wintwer diving. Just trying some 4mm elaskin Beuchat bootees and use Omer Ice 3 fins with the Omer footpockets. Use a technisub Luna mask as I need lenses.

Hope that helps as a starter. lots of info available if you use the search button.

hey

a few suggestions, firstly wetsuits
maybe an immersion or cressi they both do good wetsuits open anc losed cell
and for the fins depending on the size of your feet maybe a pair of beauchat mundial
or cressi gara 3000

and for the mask, the cressi big eyes is the mask i currently use and its the best one ive had so far and has wide visibility

so yeah hoped that helped

A view from WISCONSIN Divers - We dive in water that is 32 degrees F/ 0 C. We can be in the water for 2 to 3 hours. I use a 5mm open cell suit from ELIOS, others I dive with are 5mm from other manufactors( spetton, OMER) we use 3 fingered 5mm gloves, 5mm open cell socks. For a mask- I agree with everyone else- find one that fits. I use a ATOMIC Mask (great vis and very soft) and ICE Fins (which if your spearfishing- Ice fins are the way to go) IMO. Even after we've been in the water for HOURS the only part that gets cold is usually our fingers then our toes - I've yet to have my body get cold.

Quick Shot - Omer is a good brand, both for wetsuits and for masks. Omer's Alien fits a lot of different face types and offers good visibility. Their wetsuits are quite warm as long as they fit properly. I used my 5mm Ocean Mimetic in snowmelt-temperature water and was never, ever cold. Check into the Ice fins. They're cool  and you can't get much more camouflaged than transparent.

About how expensive was your Elios, Scott? Did you get the Black Shadow neoprene? I was thinking about Imersion, but Elios also has a good reputation. How long did it take for your suit to arrive once you ordered it?

I have 2 elios suits- One is a 5mm open cell interior/neoprene ex. econoline grey/brown camo which cost $275 with shipping (a year ago). the other one is a 3mm Corifena. And that ran me about $350. Both took about 3-4weeks from the time I ordered. (Custom)

I got a spetton 5 mil open cell and it works great i have used it all winter long and i never get cold just my feet my hands dont get cold at all and i only use a 3 mill neopren but that is up to you the mask i couldnt tell you my fins i just bought from another diver and they are ohmer millnuems and they work great but again it is up to you on what you like and all just letting you know what i use and if it helps great

Great picture, Whopperhead. :)
It should be Dan Exner from Czech Republic while his trip to South Africa. They shoot the movie about tiger sharks there.
His wetsuit is probably Dive skin's Blue Abstract Cammo.

From dive skin? I pulled the pic off 'Elios' website. I'm sure they look similar. But either way we know which Blue camo we're talking about. I would like to see that movie! Do you know what they call it?

okay its been a while so for anyone who's still checking ive decided ill probly go with a elios corifena 5mm/6.5mm wetsuit, omer ice fins, either a omer alien mask or frameless mask of some sort and im sure ill find some gloves and socks sumwhere to, thanks for all the help fellow fish slaughteras
