I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions about what thickness of opencell wetsuit I should buy for freediving in Scottish waters? I normally wear a 5mm wetsuit for surfing in Scotland but would this be enough for freediving? Currently been looking at a crease tracina two piece open cell but not sure if it would be warm enough or if I would need a 7mm?!

Cheers

Depends what you mean by freediving I guess. A 5mm might be ok for a couple of dives or shorter time in the water. If you're spearfishing or having longer bottom times you'll Def be better with a 7mm for sure. If Cressi fits you well a 7mm one will be fine- I use a 7mm mtm Elios which is fine most the year and nice and warm from now to Nov or so then an 8mm is more comfortable through the winter. You'll get a mtm Elios for about £20 more than a cressi and it's going to be way warmer. You'll get an oceanos mtm for less.

Thanks for the info....just new to freediving so not going to be having a long bottom time (yet!) I think I'll probably go for a 7mm as it would give me longer in the water! Eventually want to start spearfishing as well so I think it would be better to invest early on! Thanks for the advice!!

Hey, was also wondering if you find long johns or high waist bottoms best? I am guessing long johns would have more insulation but anymore advice on that would also be great!!

yes, longjohns for more warmth. elios are great - if you go that way tell them its for winter/cold water and they will get the idea...

My preference is high waist and then you can also add/remove a 2 /3 mm vest as needed throughout the season. I think I'd find 7 or 8 mm longjohns a wee bit restrictive but either will work tbh.

Thanks for the info guys!! Suppose the Longjohns/high waist come down to personal preference. I am guessing with a 7mm suit though that it's going to be Fairly toasty anyway!! Going to have a look at Elios and see what I think! Do you just order from their website? How long does it take normally to arrive?
