As with Jon in another recent post- I am thinking of picking up a fairly sturdy wetsuit (from elios?). Now, my first question is for the ladies-- is there difficulty getting the attached hood on with the long hair if the inside is open cell (no lining)? Would it be better to have a high collar and separate (lined)hood? What are some good solutions for diving with a snug fit & long hair?
Also, do elios suits give good range of motion in the arms?
Can someone compare the arm cut of elios vs. the raglan arm cut of oceaner?
(which is more comfortable/greater range of motion). What are your opinions on how the crotch is fastened (elios vs topsub vs omer vs ??)
:) thanks!

Brianna, no problem with long hair into an open cell hood - where a swimming cap and it slides over your head with no problem - do the same when you take the suit off....

I have long hair and I manage to get the suit on without a swimming cap. No problems so far...

Me too - long hair. It is no problem with my Elios open cell. I also have another elios suit with a detached hood for warmer water.

rofl oh you ppl with shaved heads laugh! :)

Spaniard: So you load on the conditioner for lube?! A nice deep conditioning treatment while you dive?
Donna: Sounds good.. I just worry about the swim cap bunching up, sliding around, creating pockets??.. but I will definitly try it..!
Fondueset: what do you have on the outside of your Elios, is it open too?

This is neither hair nor there, but my daughter's name is Loreal!

No joke.

We call here Elle for short and order a lot of Elle clothes from Europe with the ELLE logo on them.

are you serious?! hehe that's awesome (and such a pretty name)! my daughter's name is Gideon, but we don't collect Bibles for her.. not yet anyways! :D

Mines a 'black shadow' neoprene suit - open cell with what they call 'new black' coating. Seems like it's built right into the neoprene instead of being a coating on the surface. Outside is superstretch. It's a great suit and very warm. 5mil and I'm diving in 3c.

Don't leave the cap on... once you have the suit on, take it off, pull your hood up and dive as normal, and then put the cap back on again when you want to take the suit off..

On a serious note, I use diluted jonsons baby bath gel in wetsuit and in hair. This season I'm thinking about shaving my head to grade 1, much easier that way methinks.

About the closure of bevertail snaps etcetera..

I have a smoothskin 5mm with velcro closure, it works fine

I also tried the omer/picasso plastic snaps and they are fine.

Best is the kind of fastener elios-sub and cressi-sub uses, sits secure and is a flush design compared to the plastic parts and sits more securely than the velcro type.

Also the length of the sting that holds the locking pin is adjustable so it is more customable than the snaps in plastic.

Ps. the velcro kind of suit is a TOPSUB that i have.

Their smoothskin suits are amazing!

um, is the string uncomfortable, because it sounds uncomfortable :p
i still can't make up my mind between suits. elios has been excellent with the correspondence however,
poseidonSv: i'm curious if you prefered the velcro over the ring fastener.

The string is no problem - I have an elios black shadow suit and it is wonderful~ Also a 3mi ecoline.
As Poisedon said - it is adjustable and quite comfortable. As I've mentioned ad absurdum - my 5mil suit is comfortable in water down to where it becomes a solid. Elios rocks - just make sure you get your 'measures' right - though they are very intuitive and will let you know if they are wrong!
The Benthos and Pelagos smoothskin suits look pretty cool - I believe they are hand painted! Every time I put on my suit I am amazed how comfortable it is!

The velcru solution is a bit more comfortable as the jacket part and the beavertail part is more flush.

A tendency with the stick on a stering through the hole attachemnt thing is that there is a tendency to have the bottom of the jacket under the hole or holes for the string and pin sticking out because the pull is above theis area and the lower parts stands out as a flap.

I exagerate it alot because this is not a real problem I just want to say that the velcro topsub kind is more clore flush and closer to the body.

BUT the string and pin in the hole closure is sitting more securely.

The plastic closure ala OMER or PICASSO has evenm greater tendency to create a loose flap below because the parts muild more milimeters than the other solutions do and this makes a space between the tail and the jacket partand because they are not in the same line it makes the thing flap out a little.

I know my wetsuits well...

hmm if there was a thread somewhere mentioning all the of freediving wetsuit makers out there (is there?) this would be a lot easier. i just got some advice to go with marea, and so far i really like their site and their prompt and to the point correspondence. looks like a person has a lot more freedom to help design a suit by marea (option for different fasteners, etc).
