what colour camo shud i use>

gday all. i just wanted to no what colour camo shuld i paint my wetsuit for spearfishing around the rocks? i like the blue camo but my mate thinks blue camo is use for open water. i dnt think it realy matters. any sugestions wuld b welcome?
 
i'm not sure what effects painting might have on your suit but if it is OK then just go down and have a look yourself. usually dark greens, rust colours, greys would be a good place to start as these should go well with the kelps and weeds around most british rock marks, although it's best just to go down diving and have a look around. i have used black suits and currently have a cressi camo suit and have not really seen any notable difference in the way fish react, it's more to do with the way you move above anything.

I'm the same having dived in blue black and camo suits I don't think there's any difference.
Saying that I prefer using my Camo suit as for some reason I feel more confident in it
 
yea i agree, the main thing is how u aprouch the target. i mite go wth the blue and black camo cus its wat i like the look of. thx for the imput mate:king
 
try to make a camu that blends on your dive spots it really helps just tellin my side
 
I just like my camo suit, it's like being a kid again and playing soldiers.

try for the best shading for your dive spot, colour doesnt really matter as most fish are colour blind, only sencing movment and shading differences
 
Obviously depends on the surroundings. I read that the US military redesigned their camo at least once during the recent Iraq/Afghan conflicts, to better match the surroundings.

For the kelp that I often dive in, I reckon something with some large orange-brown patches in it might be a good idea. Although I figure matt black is probably pretty good here too as it reflects little or no light - might not be so good in clear water over white coral sand though (I'm thinking you are in Oz?), as the lack of light would show up as a silhouette. Another approach, might be to use something like the Predator wetsuits, used by Miles, which typically use only 2 colours and have v. large odd shaped patches of each colour - the idea presumably being to break up your profile/edges so that you do not appear as one large object. The continental competition spearos, sometimes mix pants & tops from different suits (perhaps one camo & one not), presumably for similar reasons (or perhaps its just a fashion statement ).
 
I think shading is more important than colour large abstract patterns to break up the body shape but I think calmness ,stealth and silence is way by far the most im important .Think sound and body shockwaves to the preys (sonar ) lateral lines listening ,feeling for you.
 
Use whatever makes you feel good, because I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter. A couple of years ago I started this thread on the subject

and nothing has changed my mind. Dam Nguyen probably gets as many fish diving from my boat as the other guys combined, and he wears black.

In the last week or so, I've speared personal best yellowtail and white sea bass while wearing black in clear blue water.

Almost everyone in Southern California has bought into the camo thing, so of course the wet suit companies give them what they want, but the main function of camo is to catch divers, not fish.
