What happened to Lunocet Monofins?

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Pretty much. I have a stiffer fin and I'm slowly working on my fly kick and flexibility, so I think I can do sub 40 in the 25m pool if I did some strength training again. The turns kill me though, time-wise. Sometime when I'm fit again, I'd like to see what happens in a 50m pool.

Oh, and Dave is right. If I had to ascend from 30m with a lunocet on my feet, I'd be doing arms-only no fins. Clearly, something went fundamentally wrong with v2.

HaHa!!! rofl That Forcefin photo reminds me of my first monofin I built when I was 12 years old. I hot glued an old pair of shoes to a sheet of fiberglass. It broke on the second kick!

Oh well, I've come a long way since then. This is where DOL-Fin technology is headed. This is a DOL-Fin X-20 and will be available this summer.

I think I found out what happened to the Lunocet!!!

That actually looks pretty fun... But without good visibility or without mastering control it is a recipe for disaster.

I'll stick with freediving... As opposed to being used as trolling bait for the big one.

The subwing is not a new idea, a similar wooden device has been used for 15+ years at the world spearfishing championships to scout large areas. The subwing is more flashy, more advanced and more maneuverable though.

..and, it bears a mild resemblance to the Lunocet fin blade.

Spoke with Mr. Ciamillo today after contacting him via lunocet.com yesterday. Very nice to chat with about the real idea behind the development of his product. Maximizing efficiency in the water over long distances (thereby increasing the chance of a meaningful marine life encounter - think whale shark) and advancing a sport called hydrotouring.
Sounds like they have a new version of the fin out - short lead time and very appealing cost... Much lower.

Hi Waterman,
any more info on the new fin ?

He did say that the new and updated website would be up in a week or so. He mentioned that the fin can be "tuned" depending on the intended use. Tighter for sprinting, looser for distance work, etc. Also, different springs are available - mostly to cover the range of different users body mass.

very interesting. thanks a lot for your info.
yeah went to the website today but only saw a blank page. have you seen any pictures or at least drawings of the new versions ?

As far as I remember adjusting the spring was available from the very first version, so I don't think the adjustable spring is great news. If there is a new version of the fin, I hope there is more than just this.

I saw a contest on Facebook to win a 2014 Lunocet, a Go Pro Hero3 and Darkfin gloves and booties. It was on both the DarkFin and The Lunocet pages. Check it out.

They were also having a special introductory sale price of $399...This 2014 version is supposed to be leaps and bounds better than any in the past. It actually looks like the fluke of a dolphin.

I've also ordered a latest model back in February. It has never arrived. I spoke to Ted (the owner) at least half a dozen times and we exchanged DOZENS of emails. Every time, he gave me a sob story about working on some new prototype, will be done in a week or two, so sorry for the delay, etc. He did claim that he shipped it, but could not provide a proper tracking number and nothing was ever delivered. We are now October (8 months later) and he's no longer replying to any of my emails. (I -love- that he did try to add me to his LinkedIn contacts. When I reminded him of his default, he just stopped talking to me.)

If you DO make a Lunacet purchase and have not received anything by 30 days, get your money back IMMEDIATELY. You may NEVER get your Lunocet or your money back.
