I had a look at the Members list...

There is a column for reputation... but I cannot figure out what it means...

It does not seem to be connected with the number of posts...

What is "reputation" on this forum ?

hi Subaquaticus

reputation is what people give you for the content of your post... so if they find something funny, useful, or jsut great, they press the rep button (top right of post) and write you a message... when you go into User CP you will see the reps given to you and by whom... and for which post.

word of advice....bad reputation should only be given, if it's really an offensive post... we try to keep things harmonious around here ;)

here goes your first rep :)

I knew that!!
Well I do now. I can rate things, the control is in my hands.
I,ve given this post an excellent rate.
I like to learn something every day and it's only 9:15 am so I can relax for the day and not try and learn another thing.

I work 10 hours a day Crusty.
So I work 40 hours in 4 days, so I only work 4 days a week.
This week was Monday to Thursday and next week is Tuesday to Friday.
So I've got 4 days off.
So go suck sh#t and keep working.
I've just bought a boat and I only have a few minor repairs to do then I'll be out and at it.
Going to the Docker's game Sunday.
Been told the Salmon's running.
Doing a service on the wife's car at the moment.

Your rep power is 11 Sara. Do you vote for yourself?

you can't vote for yourself mate... ;) press your own rep button and see what happens....

Before, everybody could give negative karma (now called reputation), and this person said something or expressed an attitude that angered many people, thus recieving many negative "points", driving his color into the red. Now I belive only forum mentors can give negative reputation, in order that the system is not abused.

I do not quite see the mathematical relationship :duh between the number of green dots and the so-called "Reputation Power"...............................

By now, I have

210 posts

57 "reputation points"..........

1 green dot

1 reputation power...

I see one DB member with 231 posts and 5 green dots ?

Does it imply that my posts are pure crap :crutch ?

I dont think rep has any relation with number of posts. Rep goes up one level once you pass 100 rep points (I believe). So 0-100 = level 1 rep, 101-200 level 2 rep......

It all depends.. sometimes you may post a lot like me but a lot of the posts are one liners... I have been a member since 2001... it takes time to collect reputation. Some people also give you reputation for strange reasons (chat-up) hahaha...

It's not really according to how much you post. also don't expect to get rep for everything fantastic you write, people will often just appreciate you silently. A lot of days we converse over the Beach bar, racking up posts of just banter, that doesn't earn us reputation.

Also it may be that the member you are referring to is someone who posts a lot of jokes etc.. often people give rep for jokes.

Don't worry... hey it's not like some divers who are card collectors (do as many courses as possible show they can show off the selection of cards in their logbook folder.. rofl rofl) it doesn't mean they are better divers than those with just a couple of cards ;)

It should be pointed out that the chatup type rep may be unwelcome to the recipient and could cause upset and akward situations at home, as well as a measure of repulsion to the sender :rcard So be careful what you say

Sorry... I am no native English speaker... what's the difference between "pick up" and "chat up" ?

Sorry not a reference to you by any means :) just trying to point out that others have and do send very unwelcome comments with their reputation
Just for the record, reputation squares go up by a square when every whole 100 is passed, the reputation comment eg .... will be famous soon enough etc changes at the 50 mark between the hundreds. and the rep power is a confusing balance between the length of time youve been a member, your reputation level and the amout of any bad reputation that you may or may not have had in the past.
If you ask me its better to have 1 green square and have posted 200 good diving related posts that have 5 squares and have posted that which comes out of a male cows bottom for 200 posts. Have some rep from me freind :)

rofl rofl rofl

i am with you there... i have had some pretty iffy borderline reps given to me that could well be construed as harrassment :(

This is getting almost as confusing as the "Question Time" from Amphibious thread.
