i getting a rob allen aluminium 80cm railgun with 20mm rubber shipped from south africa but due to posting regs u cant post over 100cm which means i have to buy the gun 'spearless'

i can buy the spears from crystalvis.co.uk but they are £30 and from reading a few articles they dont sound like the worlds best spears!! and that they are prone to rusting!?

what are good spears to buy and what would be worth buying?

any advice/tips is very much appreciated!!

The rob Allen spears are good, they are very tough and are capable of handling very big fish, also the tricut tip apparently does provide better penetration on large fish. However they have been known to rust, and I personally find them heavy in the water creating extra strain on my wrists. I have replaced my spears with Picasso stainless steel ones and I find them a lot easier to use. Another option is seatec stainless spears. I know these fit the rob Allen mechanism also.

Just make sure you match the spear size to the size of the rubbers, as this will have a huge impact on accuracy and use ability.

Hope this helps a bit

Matt

Sorry to jump in Scubaroo but! I have a RA 90 which I bought a few weeks ago and also find the spear heavy. Do you use exactly the same length Picasso spear as the RA?

Mike.

Hi mike yes my Picasso spear is also 130cm long. If you don't mind me asking did you buy a carbon or aluminium gun?

Hi scube. I bought an aluminium. In hindsight I should have payed a bit more for Carbon and may grab an 70 or 80 in Carbon at some point. Just been down to Mousehole and viz was so bad I could hardly see the end of the 90!!!!. Just finding that my wrist is staining with the gun at the minute and the spear is quite heavy. What are you using? Ally or Carbon? Mike.
