Hello guys,

i found 2 pieces of Paduk, it's 3m50 long, thickness is 20mm and width is 12cm.

I d love to build a 80cm (barrel lenght) roller like the one shared.

I would like to know what sort of wood would you glue with paduk to have something correct in term of buyoancy ? If im correct, paduk alone would not do the trick right ?

Thank you for your help and precious advices

Hey Debidoo. I have made a number of spearguns from Padauk. The specific gravity / density does vary but is often between 720 - 785kg/m3. For guns with a lot of volume like the ones you pictured, this is not a problem. For the more narrow guns that I typically make, this timber can be a little too dense so I laminate with a lighter timber. It is durable and a pleasure to machine and work with. It does contain a high level of silica so dust extraction and particle respirator is a must. Your workshop will turn pink regardless. I love the colour once it is epoxy coated. Contrasts well with Wenge and blonde timbers like Eucalyptus.

It is a shame Australia no longer allow the importation of timber from Africa.
