As of January 1, 2013, the California Department of Fish and Game became the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Not all change is bad, but I don't see how this was necessary or beneficial. I guess time will tell.

I guess it's how we should view wildlife.

So you can expect hunting and gathering of any kind will be forbidden, just like in the medieval good old days, where the king owns everything, including you the serfs.

When everything is made illegal, everything is allowed.

The hunters and fishermen haven't reacted positively so far. I don't blame them.

The term "game" presupposes hunting is involved. The term "wildlife" just means all living wild creatures without presupposing anything. I guess the CA lawmakers don't want people to assume that wild animals are there for hunting.

Hilarious that such crappy decision are often pushed by people who live in urban areas and only saw animals on tv: totally ignorant of what wildlife is really about, and totally oblivious of their own animal identity.

Well, I too am an animal and I'm not willing to repress, deny or foget about that. That's why it makes me feel good to interact with animals like an animal myself (predation being part of it).

The decision wasn't put to vote. From what I understand, it was part of a bill that went through the legislature. It didn't pass as a single bill, so they sneaked it through as a rider.

I sometimes run into people who are opposed to hunting. In that case, I often ask them if they know what happens to animals in the wild. It's not all fuzzy furry Disney out there. In fact, a human hunter can dispatch an animal with much more speed and mercy than is often found in nature. This gives them something to think about.

Reactions: Kars and spaghetti
I agree with Spaghetti too, how odd it is that some people forget we are animals.

I had a Christmas card but other than that not a thing for months!
