i do make a plan from A-Z fish names first
when start holding i mean i say inside me A,... thinkin' a little bit , A=amberjack, i say inside me B,... thinkin' a little bit , B=bass....
it works but it ends very early , any suggestion for big games and what exacty you doin' to make your brain fool

Nothing really...I used to play "games" in my head, but with enough training I got rid of that...I just let my mind kind of drift and concentrate on how my body is feeling.

Before the first breathing reflex, I just try to enjoy the euphoria as much as I can. Sort of just float there thinking, "wow, this is nice".

After the first contraction it's just pretty much "one more, come on, one more...There you go"

When I start a static, my mind just sort of automatically drops to this mode, I don't try to bring it on conciously. I believe this is just a result of countless repetitions.

Competitions, of course, are a different animal, much harder to keep the mind in check. But for me, the best method is to not worry about it. The worst thing you can do is start thinking "oh my god, my mind is racing! Must calm down, must calm down". Better is "well, let's see how this goes then..."

I don't play games in my head or think of anything special, just let my mind drift or think of nothing. The best statics have been when I am not thinking at all, but this has only happened a few times.

When it starts getting difficult, I can sometimes ignore what is happening and think of nice things.

With contractions I don't count them, it's just too painful to think of how many there are. :D

I just try to take them one at a time.

i will be thinking of sinking...blank thoughts or the mistakes that i did in life... it just makes me hang on during the last seconds. revenge from your self, will make u hang on more.

CheerzZz

I try to think about good things or places where I'd like to be. When I'm listening to music during breath-holds, I try to sing along, becouse it keeps my mind focused on the song and not the time.

I used to sing songs in my head, but then I realized that it was too easy to track time that way. Now, I just try to keep my mind blank, and read my body. Whenever something starts to tense up...my arms, for instance...I focus on relaxing them. The hardest thing for me to keep relaxed is my chest, since it's under the pressure of holding in all that air. My nasal passage, too...it always feels stuffed full of air (I use a noseclip during statics). During other tables, I had started shifting when the hold got nasty (putting arms up over the head, bending and raising the knees), but this time I forced myself to remain perfectly still and relaxed, to not use muscle and expend energy. Recently, I started counting my contractions. This little trick worked on my last O2 table, on Fri. I knew I'd gotten to 20 contractions during an apnea walk, so I decided during this table that I'd see if I could make it to 30. I wasn't even sure what hold I was on, I just focused on counting. When I hit 30, I exhaled...just as the voice said "Session ends." I was grinning from ear to ear and pumping my fist in the air....I'd just made it through the 3:45 hold, my new personal best. :D So, even when it gets really, REALLY hard, STAY focused, STAY calm, stay RELAXED. It works!

my idea there is no relationship how much inhale before max attempt, the trick is to train your brain and win mental ability, i everyday trying different different things today i decide to attempt big hold as tom(Tom Sietas) only getting deep breath and directly going to big hold.. i wake up early today at 6:00am and attempt at 6:30am to max hold, i did not make my PB' best but easily pass 5+ and aproached to 6 it was 5:40 in first hold but there must be way to hold 7+ or 8+ only getting a deep breath and hold , my body must get adaptation to this situation, i work on it ., i don't know how! i don't know the way! tomorrow maybe i ll try a different thingS , works or not works! no problem! :D ill try thinking black and read my body i am gonna try , too... or something else may be better not joint down here yet ..every idea consist a usefull things this way i read 2-3 times all post what exactly my friend/s mean.

Just so you know, this thread is all about The Stream. Once you're in The Stream, there's no struggle any more. The trick is to drop out of the Stream, before it carries you away to dreamland, and run your surface protocol clean.

hi everybody,
have u ever heard about Zen Meditation?
that´s what i´ve discovered + started to practice this week...
and i think it could be really helpfull for static apnea

actually, Zen is triing to teach how to look at something without
thinking about it -but still be aware of looking (its a lil bit hard to explain) ...
i tried some trainings already and i really have the feeling
that it helps in controlling the mind and filtering (unimportent) activities
from the environment
i want to reach the so called "Zen- Condition" (or total relaxation) which should happen after a while of practicing

well, it sounded interesting but i started only 1 week before, so if i have any further results or discoveries with this kind of practice i will inform u all...:)

cheers, Réka

I personally find myself dropping out of the Zen-like condition quite often when doing statics in tropical climates, on account of the flies.

I'd be reading this website when I'm breathe holding. Or watching TV. I find it quite hard to think about absolutely nothing. So it's often easiest to have my mind occupied by something relaxing. Only thing is I'd be tempted to reach out for the mouse or TV remote control. :p

When doing dynamic apnea, I think about how it feels pretending to be a dolphin swimming underwater. Quite relaxing. The last thing I want to think about is "oh, I'm holding my breath".

I think I'll sign up for some yoga meditation classes to help me w relaxation.

Just keep negative thoughts coming! Like; I can not do this. Contractions?!?! Allready?? ***** FIVE minutes to my target time. This does not feel good! My PB was EASY, why do i feel like crap now?? My warmup wasn´t perfect, I will NEVER do a good time. Keep doing this and you´ll se that you will get up in time, trust me!

Nah, DO NOT THINK AT ALL. Most people don´t do it in ordinary life, so it shouldn´t be so hard for less than ten minutes. ;)

I sing songs in my head my favorite ones like enriqe's i like it and nelly's just a dream i sing hundreds of different songs those are just examples

I think in my sub concius yes I placed my self in this situation and I accept it then in my concius I think relax deeper so I feel like I don't have a body the go deeper still so now my mind goes blank almost like I dint exist any more the I try and feel like I step out oft body and try and do so by the time I reach this point it's time for me to taste the nectar of life

Sometimes I think of the medium rare cheeseburger and a pepsi I'll treat myself too on the way home. For me it's like the proverbial carrot in front of the horse. Other times I go totally blank and lose myself. That tends to lead to my best down times, unfortunately I cannot reach that state on command but I am working on it.
