After a lot of trips in very murky 55° water, things are looking up. I went out three times this week, which is very unusual, and now I'm exhausted. Water temp is up to 59° in most spots, and visibility is at least workable.
It seems that every time I go, just one fish is seen and taken by someone, but it just isn't me. I did blow my chance recently when I was descending through about 15 feet and saw a big fish below me in the haze. I shot at that narrow back and just grazed it. It seemed to pull a little line and come off immediately. If I had it to do over again, I would have risked spooking it and taken another fin stroke to get closer.
Below are the three fish taken this week. Yesterday, I had to leave early. My daughter and grandsons flew in from Germany for a two-week stay, and I wanted to get home in time for dinner with them. A friend arrived in his boat as we pulled anchor, and I pointed to a spot to try. Before I got back to the harbor, he texted me a photo of a nice fish. Turns out he swam around about 10 minutes before shooting it from the surface.
Arrrg!
