Any tips on where to find the carp in lakes with steep rocky sides? Or crappie?

The lake I've been scouting is Sutton Lake in WV. It is an Army Corps of Engineers impoundment created by a large damn. There are steep rock ledges and steeply sloping rocky drop offs. I have seen lots of Bass, small yellow perch, and blue gills.
I've checked brush piles and downed trees on the water's edge without luck.

When I was kayaking in June, the water was colder than normal and I did spot a 12-14" carp swimming near the surface along the wall. Do carp prefer a certain temperature range? Surface temp is 78F, at 5m it's 70F, and at 10m it's 65F.

There are other parts of the lake that are shallower with some trees and little backwater tributaries. I'm waiting to try there when the flood damage has been cleaned up.

On the bright side, I did spear two nice sized blue gills on my last trip.

Best Regards,
Doug
