Either online or in store. I'm in California and looking for trustworthy stores that are competitive. I've stumbled across a couple but can always do with some more.

thanks.

:)

Have you looked at the deeper blue shop at the top of this page?

Indeed I did. I recently purchased a wetsuit from them which was damaged, it also appeared as though it had been repackaged (as if it had already been sent back). I wrote 4 emails, called from three countries over a dozen times in each time zone and never got a single response (if you call their customer service number you get a msg in spanish with their opening hours).

I eventually (after a few hours of digging around) got the manufacturer of the wetsuit to get the online store to contact me. After almost a week they said they received no such emails from me (i took a screen grab of one of them as when you email from their site you have no record of sending it). They ignored the fact that their lines are non operational they suggested that perhaps i had worn it and damaged it myself and told me if i hadn't then to fill out a couple of online forms and send the wetsuit back (at my own expense). I might also add that this correspondence came from a non-reply email address so I had no way of retorting.

In the end I kept the wetsuit and had someone repair the damage.

They have amazing prices and if you get what you asked for I don't think there's a better store in the world but from my one experience, God help you if what you get aint what you asked for.

Scubasworld.com has a great selection, I have shopped there before quite a few times. You dont have to order a dozen things from a dozen different sites.

Hi giddyuptiger,

Subprof.com (in spain) but you have to email them first and make sure they have the gear in stock. I just ordered a new gun and some other gear from subprof.

btw way Tanc is that you?

I have 3 sites I use for gear:
Hanapaa fishing in Honolulu
Imersion-usa
FloridaFreedivers

and recently added:
Pursuit in Miami
Hammerhead Spearguns in Hawaii

I have never had service and quality better than Pursuit in Miami Florida.
I agree with Ted.

Cheers, Don Paul

That is absolutely the worst. I'd never order from their again! I'd rather pay more and get good service. Holy crap.

I was ordering stuff from Jim's shop in Fla but I think he's done with it unfortunately. Also being in Canada I can order stuff direct from Mark L at OMER America. I have had good success with lesiure Pro and spearfishinggear.com (now Austin's Diving apparently).

Cheers,
Erik.

Local dive shops, if you have access to any, are the best solution. You can see what you're buying, discuss with the seller for better options, bargain cheaper prices, try on fins, masks and wetsuits, hold spearguns in your hands, et cetera.
It's just like buying meat at the butcher's. If it's ill coloured, or it smells, you can feel it. And smash it on the butcher's face. :martial

Trouble with LDS is that they rarely have a large warehouse with lots of everything, and there you risk not to find what you're exactly looking for. If I need some very particular minute item (spare buckle for an Omer Olympia mask, piece of a trigger mech or muzzle for a particular gun, spare sheath for a particular knife...) I get it online. A click and you're done.

That is absolutely the worst.
Cheers,
Erik.

Which one is that Erik?

I'm buying everything from scubasworld.com.
The service is more than excellent
it never took more than 24 hours to reply to my email. They even called me making sur everything was ok. By the way they are in florida and i'm in canada.
They got tons of really good gear and most of the time, if they don't have it they are gonna get it for you at competitive price. I bought a lot and i was able to bargin a little bit.
I have no reason to try any other store

I'm buying everything from scubasworld.com.

They seem to get mixed reviews, but my experience with them was generally positive. A couple of the items I ordered online were apparently not in stock. They contacted me quickly, and we made one substitution and removed the other from my order. I have also emailed them with other questions, and they responded promptly. I would order from them again.

I have also ordered from Austin's Diving Center in Miami and the service and follow-up were excellent.

As has been mentioned, Dan at Pursuit is also top-notch in terms of service and product quality. He has also been extremely helpful in answering my questions.

It depends what I need. I also cross check prices quite a bit to ensure I'm not paying too much.
LeisurePro.com
Scuba.com
JoeDiverAmerica.com
NorthEastScubaSupply.com

Between the three when I need something I can usually find it. Again cross check prices because it's easy to pay more than you have to buying online.

As much as I hate to mention them, I've had good luck on Ebay for some things before. Then again I don't mind used gear in some regards. Other regards I want new.

If I don't care for the attitude/personality of the person running the place I won't buy. I'd rather spend the money online than support a shop that doesn't act like they WANT me there or my money. Too many LDS forget that they don't deserve money or business from a customer they haven't earned it from. That's not an all inclusive statement as there are many more "good" shops than there are "bad" shops thankfully. I also understand that they have overhead to cover in order to stay in business, but I'll not have a sore rectum when I leave a shop. I'll pay a slight premium over online prices to help support a local shop, but I won't "bend over for it" either.

I've been on both sides of the LDS counter, so I do understand how it works.

I'm in the boat of not knowing any LDS's around here, and with the weather having been winter I've been replacing things from online sources. Some of the items I'm particular on, and a LDS isn't likely to carry through no real fault of their own. They simply can't cater to everyone's desires.

Now if I can ever find a reasonably priced source for Scubapro repair/service parts I'll be pleased. BROKE but pleased since I'd be buying a lifetime supply of parts for probly a dozen regulators just to ensure I can always keep them going. Mostly it's the HP and LP seats that I need since iirc Scubapro's use off the shelf O-Rings throughout.

Has anyone else had trouble with scubastore.com (DeeperBlue's dive store)

They've got an awesome price going for the Cressi Gara Pro LD's (even with the postage costs) which I've been thinking about getting but after reading giddyuptiger's post I'm now feeling quite hesitant :/

They have a small staff - so I am told - & some times things take time to materialise but most of the time you get a really good deal.
To be honest, I have experienced both aspects of service, really cheap & fast or really cheap & slow!

The actual shop's name is Venture sports heres there phone number 01803 523023 give him a ring im sure he can help :)

,

not that relevant to the original poster but anyone up north (uk) I've just found these (Denny Diving - Redcar) and initial impressions are good.

Did me a good deal on new suit and actually have quite good stock. Not all on display but opening new shop floor soon so ring and check if its in, if on the web store. They keep most spearfishing stuff off the shelf so the scrotes in town don't see it and pave the way to speargun licences! :naughty :)

Thanks for the replies! The Pro LD's come to roughly £80 including the postage on the scubastore site so I think I may just go with a UK store afterall.

I found another site for anyone inerested, apnea.co.uk which sells the Professionals for £83. They're located in Jersey, not sure what the postage costs are so I've e-mailed to find out. I'll definitely be adding spearfishingstore.co.uk to my list though!

Thanks again :)
