Well the weather is crap and vis is poor and I'm lookin over old photies to cheer Myself up and thought it might be nice if there was a thread with some images (just a taster) and a description of Our Local or favourite dive spots to spread the cheer or maybe a little inspiration for a trip or just an excuse to look at some unashamed landscape p*rn.

This is where I presently live... well actually in a house on the hillside above. Its a long narrow fjord (sea loch) which stretches inland a few miles from the open sea. the water comes in through a narrow bottleneck at the mouth of the fjord and it fills the bottom of the valley between two ranges of hills/mountains which makes it very sheltered. These are views north, west and south from My closest spot here on the east side of the fjord. the water is 17M deep here straight off the rocks with a fantastic wall decorated by all manner of anemones and the likes and is also excellent ground for fishing and hunting with Haddock, Whiting, Cod, Gurnard, Eel, Wrasse, Seatrout and edible crab and much more all to be had.

A 5-10 minute walk further inland allows a shallow beach entry at a picturesque little spot where We like to have BBQs/toast mallows and fish on the fly and lure for trout. The water this far inland is only 6-7 metres at its deepest but its full of life, I've caught cod as big as 8 kilos here in only 4 metres of water! and 2 kilos in a foot of water!...

Thats where I dive. I've showed You mine, now You show Me Yours :D

Great place you got there mate.
Well my absolute best place for diving has to be a place called Puntjie, small point if you have to translate to english. Its on a point of land protruding into the water with a estuary on one side where 75kg kob has been caught in the past, and ocean on the other with big reefs stretching into the water at low tide. High tide you fish or surf / bodyboard cause the water over the reefs only go to about 3m so you have lots of wave action. During low tide there is about 10km worth of inlets into the reef from which to start from and if you go out of these you are in open water ranging from 10 to 30m depending on how far you swim out.
The place itself is a national historical monument in a trust so there is only 75 privately kept houses available at any one time. You basically own and are responsible for the house but you are not allowed to sell the property. There is no electricity and no cellphone reception, and allways a spot where the wind does not blow. Perfect in my navy blue eyes rofl
Heres one pic of the estuary mouth, I will post more tomorrow or by next week Ill be goin there this weekend :D

Looks great! Got any jobs there!

Skilled: Loads of Oil industry jobs. there is a refinery out past the sound at the end of the fjord which employs thousands of foreign workers, some of which just bus in and out week by week on Ryanair from stanstead.
Plenty of aquaculture jobs too.
unskilled: all the ususal stuff.

I look forward to the photies mate... perhaps some of those weird ass southern hemisphere fish too eh? do you own a place there or do You just roll up and jump in? no Leccy or phone is bliss, I often forget mine accidentally on purpose when I go fishing :D I guess Puntjie is a little like round here in that You can escape the wind if you pick your spot well.

Some beautiful scenery you have there, atomchaggis!

Nothing really spectacular, but this is one of my favorite spots (just because of the visibility). Not far from my hometown, maximum depth is only around 8m, but the visibility is up to 15m, which makes it the clearest freshwater lake in the whole country. It's really cold too, as it's full of springs - about 10-12 C degrees at the bottom during the warmest months. The color of the lake is nice though...

Likewise... is that the actual colour or a filtered lens shot? That is sooo cool if its natural!

So heres two more pics of the place and yes atomic my family owns a place there, its actually the only way to get there the place has a locked gate at the entrance a few km from the river.

Sweet! I couldn't imagine the colours from the night time photie. Looks pretty special... Now if only the norwegian authorities will let Me put a gate on the fjord.

Nope no camping allowed, like I said its a private place owned by a trust. You can only get in if you have a key and you can only stay there if you know someone with a house there. The houses are not allowed to be rented out and your also not allowed to give someone your keys if they dont have a house there.
Fish wise, theres lots of kob and shad and Ive also seen a few leeries landed there. Galies, blacktail and zebra fish, parrots, cracker, grunters in the river and I shot a yellow belly there in December, theres also a few species of colourfull tropics and sole on the sandbanks, romans, basically you can get most types of fish there on any given day allthough I have never seen nor heard of yellow tail there. It also depends on if you have a boat or not as alot of the fish tend to be a bit deeper. At night on the rocks you pick up allikreukel and octopus quite easily, ten minutes gives you your qouta, its a paradise :friday:t:friday

Looks great! just did a search for it on google too....who would have thought! so close to cape town!
enjoy your weekend there man! hope u get some good viz and lots of fish! taks some photies if you get a chance!
we off to knysna next weekend....hopefully i get a dive in...although im not a fan of diving alone..

This is where I dive, I'll take another picture in the morning
