Hi

I am searching for some 1KG weights that are streamlined and have a good hydrodynamic for minimal drag.

I have see some from Picasso and Rob Allen but where in Europe can I order them?

Lambis

Ive never seen any for sale but Old Man Dave and Ed (Portinfer) from Gurnesey made some a few months ago, Dave has a mould. Might be worth a PM?

we have a lead company looking into this at the moment - they have some of my weights and may make a mould - will keep you posted

Thats great Sam. Keep me posted

Tak , I have wrote to Robenalleneurope but they dont have them

Not really going to help you at all but does anyone remember those weights that Nemrod made back in the early 70's? Bright yellow and super streamlined

Yes - Dave made a nice mould and we recently modified it for the wider fit rubber belts.

They work really well and you can knock up a dozen pretty quickly.

They are about a pound and aquarter I think but I could be wrong.

i use about 7 with a 3mm suit and with the 5mm suit I vary it according to depth - if I want to go after flatfish I put about 10 on and if it is aspetto I have 8 or so and a bit less if I am going anywhere near the cliffs or just messing about looking for fish.

They slip on really easily and you can configure different amounts very quickly....

Making a mould shouldn't be hard...if you need instructions gis a shout.

Ed

Hi Ed
Off cource I am intressting to make a Mold. I was thinking before to do it but I am not sure about the process...

If you have some tips please tell me..

Lambis

Hi Lambis - you can PM Old Man Dave for a full explanation and probably schematics too - or leave a message on the Guernsey fishing trip report section - he reads that often - I only know how to use the mold - and the weights work really well....

Cheers
Ed

Hi Lambis
Got your email but I’m afraid I deleted it as I didn’t recognise the sender. However found this thread so – Greetings.
There are quite a few pic’s of me, Ed and Pete making lead weights on a thread called something like “Making your own lead weights”. Try a search “making weights”.
I designed and made my own mould just for myself and also gave some weights to my friends. I am an engineer and a technology/craft teacher by profession. I have access to a fully equipped workshop. You need a metal lathe, and a gas welder plus knowledge to use them if you want to make a mould like mine.
I can provide you with plans if you need them. Approximately, each weight weighs 0.650kg (1.4lbs) and is 8cm (3.2in) overall length x 35mm (1.4in) diameter.
I could make you some weights but I think postage would be very expensive. I don’t make them for sale.
Hope this helps.
Dave.

Strange.. I have to contact them before 2 weeks and they told me that the next shipment with D-shaped weights will be arount January

from a scientific point of view i really wouldn't bother with hydrodynamic weights - they won't make any difference. the drag from a few lead weights is absolutely negligible compared the drag from your whole body moving through water. i would focus more on body position as there is far greater scope for performance gains.

Perhaps they only buy them to order (because of the weight/out of season)? I wasn't looking for "hydro dynamic weights", just ordered the belt & those are the only weights RA do -- they seem like a good design though.

[BTW I was wrong re. "about...now", they said about 6 weeks but that was only 4 weeks ago -- it seems longer when you are waiting for equipment!].
