Simple question!

I am so envious of those beautifully clear tropical seas with visibility of up to 30 metres (even 15 metres in the Blue Lagoon, Comino, Malta was fantastic).
So can anyone tell me where and when is the best visibility off Britain (and how much) as it would be nice not to have to fly 6 hours!

Thank you.
Andrew

Sardegna

Vis off the east coast of Sardegna was excellent when I was there november/december this year. I'd guess it was around 20m most of the time.
Temperatures were good enough for a 3mm shorty, and the food good enough to make that shorty really tight. :D

The flight from Stuttgart, Germany took about 1½ hours, so it shoudn't be much more than three for You.
It was even extremely cheap to get there. We paid 1¢+tax for a flight - not so bad, I say.

I just know I'm going back there...

Here in the Channel Islands we have some of the best of UK vis. Guernsey in particular can be good :) . However we have big tides (10metre rise and fall) and being an island we can be very wind swept.

The south west in general and Cornwall in particular can be good. Scotland can be excellent and I believe parts of Wales has good vis at times. All places in the British Isles probably have the ultimate potential vis in winter as there is no plankton but being the winter usually this potential is not realised because heavy weather in winter time stirs up silt and clouds the water.

In summer we have 7 to 10 metre vis quite often. I have seen vis up to 18 metres in summer and 25 metres in winter but that's rare. Currently we have the worse vis for many, many years (less than 1 metre) as we have experienced weeks of non stop gales.

There was a thread on vis some time ago. Will try to post a link later.

West Coast of Scotland would get my vote, particularly in the winter
