which carbon for spearfishing

Hey gang,

Been cruising around the site for over a month and have gotten some great information. My question is which carbon fin would be best for spearfishing? I currently use Cressi 2000 HF (second pair) and have noticed that they don't have quite the snap that I want. I have done freedives (no gun) down to around 150 feet and notice that the Cressi's don't seem to have much snap past 70 or 80 feet. I am seriously considering carbons but have not had the chance to sample any. I have seen the Sporasub Carbon Pure and it looks soft and a bit whippy. I have also seen the Picasso Carbona's and they looked about right. Only thing is that I heard that they are a killer on the surface. Anybody out there tried the Carbonprene or Carbona's? Also heard a rumor that Cressi is coming out with another blade that is supposedly stiffer and a bit linger than the 2000 HF. Anybody tried or heard any thing? Thanks gang.

Welcome to the gang ...
If you look around underwater you will notice that not too many spearo's use carbon blades ; unless they have more than one set of fins and use the carbons for bluewater hunting .
Those carbons get pretty nervous if they only see the reef .
Swimming back to the surface from 30 m. plus with a stubby on one foot is less fun than it might sound .
I would recommend looking at for instanc the OMER range of plastics . I use the older Tuna comps. and there have been many good reports of the new models here .

OMERs & Picassos are the most popular amongst spearos. I've got a pair of 44-46 Millenium Carbon Pros by OMER if you're interested/have the feet to fit. 1/2 price and less than a year old w/ just a handful of dives on them.
