Stop by this week, did you watch The Cove yet?

I've had both Hyper Pro and Waterways Glide and I would suggest that the nuances of the different designs are minor when compared to other aspects that plague purchasing monofins over the internet.

Issues with ordering a mono over the internet that I have encountered or heard from others:

1. Footpocket size - Finswimming footpockets are intended to provide an efficient transfer of force between foot and blade, therefore they tend to be worn really tight. From what I understand the ideal footpocket size for finswimmer is one that becomes unbearably painful just as the race/training session is finished. Anything else is inefficint. So, while you can provide a manufacturer with your exact foot size they will invariably make the footpocket too tight for comfortable prolonged use. Sometimes they also just seem to get it wrong. Maybe it's a language barrier thing.

2. Hardness - Blades come in a range of stiffnesses. Typically freediving involves much more gentle finning than finswimming, consequently for the blade to be working efficicently a freediver will use a soft or long distance blade.

3. Angle - Angle between the blade and the footpocket allows a more natural ankle position. Unless you are Michael Phelps it will be more comfortable with at least 20+ deg angle. The measurement of this angle is not particularily scientific as the footbeds in mono's are frequently curved.

Phil - in my experience if you give the manufacturer your foot measurements for a custom fin, it's a complete lottery whether the result is tighter or looser than required. The end result may bear no resemblance to either your own measurements or those of any human.

An added complication is that footpocket tightness has a huge impact on a fin's overall stiffness.

I rate WW glides pretty highly. The quality seems to vary less, the sizing is fairly consistent and the blade action is good.

Also keep in mind that many of us have very small variances between the left and right foot, which will be accentuated with a tight footpocket. I was reminded of this last night when the skin was rubbed off every one of my right toes but my left were untouched :crutch

I think the divers finning style also has to be factored in. The glide, as the name implies is more suited to single or double kicks followed by a stationary glide phase. How does the Hyper compare?
