Can anyone explain to mean the difference between 10l 12l and 15l tanks. They oviously hold different amounts of air but how does the bar difference affect things ie 200b or 300b

The Bar rating is based on the fill pressure of the tank, ie the pressure required to get the volume of gas in the tank, liter is the volume of the tank. Being on the wrong side of the "pond" our tanks are in PSI and CuFt.

A very very simple example, 2 tanks that are physically different, ie short tank and tall tank, both hold lets say 12L (same volume) the small tank would be a 300bar and the tall tank would be a 200bar, it would take greater pressure in the small tank to get the same volume as in the big tank. Get it??

This is not always the case but a very general example.

I'm not sure if you're taking the piss or not? :t

Is this a test?

Did you read the reply to your other post asking the same question? :vangry

Get a grip. :duh

PS Sorry John but you got that a bit wrong. Probably the units confused you. Two different sized tanks would have different volumes in litres. Cubic feet doesn't equate to litres as litres measure the size at 1 bar (Normal atmosphere) but cubic feet take into account the pressure that the tank is charged to.

Just to give an example using John's 2 tanks. The small one would be 10 litres and the big one would be 15 litres. To hold the same amount of air the 10L would need 300 Bar and the 15L would need 200Bar. Then they would both contain the same amount of air in Cubic Feet (about 90 cu ft).

Thanks, liters, bars, I will stick with cuft.

Yeh! Well you got the best system.

We had to change 'cause of the stupid Metric system and the crazy European Union.

At least you know how much air is in your tanks without having to have a degree in maths.

God bless America. :inlove

Hi Guys

I am new to this site and have been having problems logging on. Thankyou all for responding.
I'm sure I was not told about different size tanks in my training, so I'm glad I asked you guys. I now understand fully!

Regarding my previous post. As I am new to this site I couldn't find it!

Honestly I'm not usually a nonse!!!!!

Lots of people do that. Don't worry.

Personally I recomend always going to quick links and clicking on "Subscribed Threads". It's got nothing to do with paid subscriptions but lists any thread that you have subscribed/written/posted on. Got it?

Welcome to DB.

Dave :)

Ps where you from in the UK?

Hi Dave

Thanks for the tip and the welcome!

I live in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. But hoping to move to Spain later this year.

I found this site by accident, surfing the net looking for info on tanks!!!
From what I have seen so far it looks a good site. Even though I am an AOWD I still consider myself a novice with only 16 logged dives, so I am always on the look out for good advice.

i ve just notice your question and i would like to try giving you an idea:
Let say 15 lit x 300 bar = 4500 / your consumption (normaly arround 20 in calm) it will give you 225 minutes of breathing on surface . Instead of 15 lit cylinder let see the 10 lit 10x300=3000/20=150 minutes on surface breathing thats the different for littres and bars among cylinders.
