I'm off to Iceland in a couple of weeks and only have 3mm socks, will these and 2 pairs of everyday socks be sufficient? Or will I need to be looking at getting thicker? The water temp is between 2 and 4 degrees C.

Cheers

Just confirm that your thinking of whereing normal socks under wet suit socks ? I would go for 5 mm if you can fit them in your fins without effecting circulation or 4mm if you can get them .I wouldn't think normal socks would help much unless they are wet suit material tho I may be wrong.I went to Iceland years ago but not in the sea. get in the hot thermal lakes /streams/mud pools if you can take the heat.

I actually wore 2 pairs of normal socks under my 3mm's the last time I went in the water and surprisingly my feet wernt blistering freezing. Ill try buying a 5mm pair and see how we'll they get off. I'd imagine they fit in ok.

It suppriseing the difference its makes from 3mm to 5mm .I can understand normal day socks trapping water and warming up but not helping to insulate material wise.Have a great time in Iceland it will be stunning .Its very volcanic arid and wild try some" brenivin "its the local moonshine if you can find some.let us know how you get on.

I use 6mm socks and I have a set of fins that can fit them.

If you can only fit 3mm, take a second pair of 3mm and cut off the toe part and wear them overtop as well. Might help you get a bit longer out of each dive?

I use 7mm socks for those conditions, had to bodge my finns to fit them though. I cut down the sides and made shoelaces from surgical tubing, just tighten up when wearing 5 mm in the summer. I got them from a Norwegian webshop called Frivannsliv.no
