Hello All,

It's been about a year since I posted. Been enjoying the underwater portions of my 50m pool workouts this summer (U.S.) and started thinking again about Human Breaching again. I started a thread in Monofins last year about this here:
http://forums.deeperblue.com/monofins/76147-defining-perfect-breach-3.html

Thought I'd throe it out again and ask: Is anyone out there Breaching? I mean really breaching?

Here's my definition:
* An aquatic breach is defined as the effort of a totally submerged individual using only his own power and natural air supply to breach or exit the water surface before descent and re-entry back into the water.

* A Complete Breach is defined as total clearance or exit of the water of all parts of the body including any attached appendages such as fins. No part of the body or appendage may be touching the water while athlete is in the air to qualify as a Complete Breach. (A Partial Breach may have parts of the body/appendages remaining in the water at different times and locations.)

What's the latest in the Breaching World? When are the World Championships? What's the world record? Breaching aficianados want to know!

I was desperately trying for the last couple years but so far my border line is just below my knees I was using either soft or medium mono but obviously hard would be the best for this kind of trick also no weights and thicker wetsuit will help

Ankles out in a vertical motion but with bending my body a bit can get to my footpockets before my hands hit the water, soft Triton hyper so not idealmay try a mates model 2 medium distance and see how i go, problem is i'm 6'4" so alot of me to get out of the water?

Last time I tried three small children were washed up on the shore in Wales....

I wouldn't mind but i was on holiday in the Canaries at the time :)

I've got a video of Sam Still exiting the water including fin somewhere.

Aha... so people have been thinking about this. Where's Ted from Lunocet on this? He was really going for it.

I have a theory about a way to do it (form and style-wise); will play with it a little on my own.

We need videos! Who's brave enough to post their attempt? (Lastonogiy did on the old thread)

Breach or Die!

when the new camera arrives i'll see how i go with the old M2 fin and a bit of effort.

To my knowledge Davide Carrera (99m CWT diver from Italy) is the only person (known) who can do a perfect breach.

When I saw him at VB2009 I should have asked him to demonstrate for a video...

Hello Eric,

Interesting! Put a bug in his ear to capture it on video. If true, he would go down in history as the first documented Complete Breach. The equivalent of Eadweard Muybridge's first proof showing that a horse's feet all leave the ground!

Some day in the future, they'll talk about this moment in history as the dawn of human breaching.

I got goose-bumps!

Carrera, yes great diver but he is not the only one able to breach. There was video here long time ago of perfect (horizontal!) breach. I dont remember now if it was Molchanov or Pedersen but its definately out there somewhere, i just cant find it now. HJ if U want to see my poor attempts i have two vids- freediving lake michigan and after work dive in quarry

Uh odd subject,...but OK there is a dude on South Beach, works for Beach Life Guard on 10th street, his name is Cayetano. He has been fin swimming for awhile, and a few years ago I saw him 'breach'. He can do good ones.

I have not seen him fin swim lately but he's out there everyday about. So next time your on vacation in South Beach you can find him there.

This is all great, anecdotal stuff. But...

Show me the money! (video)

H

That vid was no where near a full breach. Bevan Dewar had a good one, but may not be in full mid air, a bit of the fin was still in the water if I remember.

I think the video shows the potential of the new sport of Aquatic Vault. (maybe done in parallel with Aquatic Breach)

Like this pic attached.

Someone will have to devise a "floating pole" or similar with increments for raising higher and higher. This is the beauty and drama of Track & Field's High Jump or Pole Vault. "will the pole stay? will it fall?"

(I'm practicing in my pool with a "Noodle" (long foam floating toy). I will only compete in the 50+ age group.
