My point was that for SURVIVAL it might be beneficial to black out early. The concious mind may be oxygen consuming. This has nothing to do with brain damage but for mere survival we should be able to turn off the oxygen to "less essential brain areas" aswell. I do not beleive this may be a function that has been gained to spare oxygen, but it might be an effect. If you do the anology with the car once again:
The car does not stop to save gas. BUT: When the car has stopped it does not use ANY gas. It might be possible to get it started under the right conditions.
I do not think that it is a prefferad way to save oxygen since brain damage might be a result. Still survival might be ensured.
If you can train to get a better defense mechanism (MDR) you should be able to train to reduce your defense mechanism by deleterious living. Or to put it another way: When you do not actively train to get better you train to sustain your low level. You can even train to get worse by deleterious living.
