I decided to buy a 6.5mm Heiwa suit with goldcoated inside and smoothskin outside.

Its a 2 piece with attched hood and longjohns

I will order it with doubble closures at the beavertail also, side by side.

Will use if for freediving and also other kinds of diving.

I think about ordering ELIOS gloves and wonder if anyone has experience with smoothskin gloves?

Any opinions?

Don't know anything about their gloves, but why did you go for long-john and no high-waist pants?

Well i dont really have a good answer other than that i like the longjohn when undressing since its warmer when its windy and the pants feel more secured and sits more firmly with longjohn.

Negative might be harder to breath as some other freedivers might say.

Didn't think about the undressing phase. :)
It also might seal slightly less and thuss might be colder.
Just wanted to make sure you are aware of the claims. Doubt you'll regret the suit anyway, elios are great.

why would a longjohn seal not as good as waist high pants?

You thing the pants stick closer to the body and the jacket is tighter to the lower part than it would with a long john?

I might change my mind now.

hi fredrik,
high waist pants are much more confortable for breathing, because they don't constrict your chest. and i don't think that long johns are any warmer...
but i might be wrong.
so, did you choose any funky color?

linda

Hi all:

I have a custom made elios suit also with the double closers securing the beavertail with attach hood & farmer "long" john trousers.

I like the double closer for it is a plus & comfortable.
As for the long johns, they seal good against my skin in which compared to my other freediving suit with the high pants, is a little warmer & retains less water entry that one's usually gets around the lower part of the spine.

If you get a custom, you should not have a problem with the john's being to restrictive. I have no problem with same, matter of fact i'll never go but custom made.

Yes Linda, you are. If you dive in conditions as I do here in Northern California, where the water routinely dips into the 40F range, a farmer john bottom is pretty much mandatory for extended and safe diving.

I would go with high waisted pants as I can breath much eaiser in them. I have owned a few suits with farmer johns and the just restrict your chest too much.

If you want something extra for those cold days I would suggest a seperate vest- although I have never needed to use one with my 6mm Elios opencell/smoothskin suit even under the ice.

My last suit I bought was only a 5mm since the 6mm was just too thick and I stay warm enough in the 5mm. Both are custom cut Elios suits which is what makes the biggest difference.

I have a pair of 3-finger mitts from Elios. They are silver coated on the inside and nylon on the outside. They are also 5mm thick and are quite warm for winter diving. I have been very happy with them and they were 1/4 the price of my Picasso 3-finger mitts.:)

I guess I stick to the Longjohns anyway.

About funky colours, what do you suggest Linda?

Very tricky to buy the most ultimate suit.

I'ts funny that elios said I can get it in 6.5 mm when they only say they have 5, 6 or 7mm on their website.

Doubble closure is something i find alot more comfortable also than the narrower string with one closure.

Maybe I choose a pattern like this then.

About funky colours, what do you suggest Linda?

i ordered my new suit a couple of weeks ago, and i went for the black smoothskin with silver camouflage. but i dare you going for the beautiful greenish colorful pattern!
actually, if anybody has an elios suit, color n. 646 i would be very interested to see a pic of it!

icarus pacific, actually i have no clue about diving in cold water....
but usually when i'm a bit chilly in my 3 mm i wear a 2mm vest underneath, which makes it very difficult for the water to come in the suit at all. that might be a better solution, since you can take the vest out when the water is a bit warmer.

Suit, complete of jacket closed with hood incorporated 6mm Gold coating
cell inside / Smoothskin outside CAMOUFLAGED BENTHOS with two closures + long john trousers. No Chestpad. Neoprene Medium Density Heiwa in tailor made without logo.
+ Socks 5mm Smoothskin outside / Gold coating cell inside
+ Gloves 5mm three-finger Smoothskin outside BENTHOS/ Gold coating cell inside.

This is what i ordered finally.

A little late, and your suit will be outstanding in any case, but both my Ellios suits are high waist. I fold down the top 10cm of the pants to make a perfect seal against water intrusion.
The other advantage is that you can get out of the water and take a pee without having to take the jacket off.
Peace (Piss?), ;)

I know but i like the aditional windbreaker and warmer feeling the suit has in my climate. I can just remove the top if I really need high waist trousers.

I already have 2 suits with high waist high pants so i have some flexibility, i bought this for colder times of the year anyway

I think I will be very safisfied anyway.

Are the tailor made Elios' suits very expensive? I couldn't find any prices at the website. I guess everything depends what kind of suit you want, but...

What do you think, how much can a smoothskin outside/nylon elastic inside approximately cost?
