Anyone use one of these Wings Nemo fins?

http://www.performancefreediving.com/store/fins.htm

I have the bi-fin blades and I find it really interesting that they seem to have come out with a monofin version w/ full footpockets. Wonder if its the same material?

Looks great and the price seems reasonable.:inlove

Alas, I have already ordered and am waiting for a Freediver/Wings mono from Leaderfins, but I'm curious how the two would compare...

Yes, the monofin itself cost reasonable money but shipping? I've paid $48 for air shipping from Estonia (Eastern Europe, Special Fins) so why shipping from Canada is 89 USD ???

The shipping cost made me raise an eyebrow, as well (considering shipping from Estonia was 50 bones). I was also perplexed by the dropdown sizing menu. The sizes do not match up with the text by the photos, and seem to completely skip my size of 40-41 (I'd even take 40-42).

I emailed Mandy-rae with these questions a day ago. I'll post her response when I receive it.

I have had a fin like that for a year now. It has the same blade as the Waterway Model 1. The footpockets are quite big. My shoesize is 42 and I have the 42-43 finsize and it's too big even with 5 mm neoprensokcs. The blade feels stiffer than on the regular Model 1 because of the way the footpockets are attached to the fin, and its a bit heavy (gives you some negative buoyancy). It has less flexibility and is not as effective as the regular Model 1. Its especially bad on the backkick. But it is an OK fin. I use it for wintertraining in the sea, when the temperature comes down to 5-8 celsius and I can keep reasonably warm on my feet for 40 minutes or so. The footpockets are Ok but it depends on your feet. The shipping is expensive probably because they have to order the fin from Ukraine, where they are made.

I ordered one. Size 260mm. Soft. I'm going to Bonaire in 3 weeks, staying for two. Provided I get it in time for the trip, I'll make the effort to post a review with photos and video. Once again, Madison, WI blazes the trail :).

Ted,

What was Mandy-Rae's response to your question about the shipping cost?

Have fun in Bonaire!

I never asked Mandy-Rae about that.... I guess I figured that if they could put a good monofin on my doorstep for less than $300, I couldn't complain. That said, I do expect this things to arrive in a fully padded 3'x3' crate ;). She did say that it would take 2-3 weeks, so I'm really really really hoping that the fin arrives before my trip.

If it's going to be close just have them drop it off at my house and I'll test, I mean keep, it for you until you gt home. ;)

I'm really interested in seeing how it works in the water since it now costs less than half of what my SF carbon monofin does. :head

Below is the full back-n-forth between Me and Mandy-rae re: my purchase of a Wings Nemo Monofin. Mandy-Rae always got back to me with responses within a business day, and, as expected, has shown nothing but patience and professionalism.

Not an exciting read, but at this stage of the game, all infomation is useful.

Ted

Thanks for the info. I will try to get it fixed. I sent you a PayPal money request for the bag. I have just sent the order to Waterway and told them that you really need it by Dec 1.

Thanks again for your order!

Hello again, Mandy-Rae,

I've recently submitted my order for the fin. I also was hoping to buy a bag for it, but the website was not properly adding it to my cart. I've included a note re: this with the purchase.

It occured to me AFTER I hit the purchase button that your previous email said "Usually they get the fin out within 2-3 weeks". Does this mean that it may not be in the mail for 3 weeks. Not to be a total PIA, but I'll need that baby by Dec 1. Do I need to write the company and beg for a speedy transaction?

Ted

I am a women’s size 8 or have worn a men’s size 7. Usually they can get the fin out in about 2-3 weeks. So if you get the order in soon you should have it in time.

Cheers,

Thanks much for the response, Mandy-Rae! I really appreciate your consultation. A couple last questions, and then I'm grabbing a fin :).

1. What size is your foot? I ask for comparison reasons, as I am debating between the two smallest sizes. I wear a US Men's size 7.5-8. It sounds like the 41-43 would be the best size, but I want to make sure. I'd prefer the snuggest fit possible, but, of course, I don't want any squeeze.

2. What is the shipping time? I am headed to Bonaire/Aruba Dec 2. Sure would like to have the new toy for the trip.

Again, Thanks.

Ted

Hi Ted,

Thank you for your interest in the Waterway fins. Here is the sizing on the fin:

size
-37/39
-41/43
-44/45
-46/48

Yes they are different from the sizing we are all used to. I must have messed up the drop down menu and will fix it right away. Sorry for the confusion. I have found the foot pocket softer and a bit larger then the Sporasub. I wear the Sporasub 38/40 and it is tight but the Nemo 37-39 I can wear a 2mm sock in.

I would assume that you would need to 40-43 foot pocket as the smaller one would be too small. You may be able to do a 5mm sock in it.

I hope this helps. If not please email me back with more questions.

Cheers,

Mandy-rae,

Thank you for contacting me. I have just one question before I go ahead and grab the credit card....

I have always used Sporasub pockets, size 40-42 (best with a 3mm sock, but can fit a 5mm as well). You website says that the mono comes with footpocket sizes 40-41 and 42-43, but the drop down menu offers a fin that is 41-43. The next smaller size is stated to be 37-39. I know 37-39 is too small, but 41-43 would be too large.

Is there an error in the drop down menu? Does this fin come in size 40-41?

Thanks for your response.

Hello Waterway,

My name is Ted. I am a freediver from Wisconsin, USA. I have spent many years looking at monofins, and have ALMOST bought one many times. Still, I have always held off because reviews were never convincing. That has changed. Kirk Krack has strongly recommended your Wings Nemo Monofin. He says that he, Mandy, and Martin have all been using the Wings NEMO, and goes on to say that the fin is comfortable for many hours in the water.

I feel that this will be my first mono, and I'm FINALLY ready to take the plunge.

Now, I need information how to buy one of these fine fins. I can pay with Mastercard or with Paypal (your choice).

Please quote me a price, and give all available options (colors, logo, etc).

I look forward to your response.

Ted

PS. I never bought a Leaderfin mono or a Specialfins mono because I do NOT like the feel of a Omer footpockets (much too hard - very mean to feet). I much prefer Sporasub pockets. Given that the NEMO footpocket does not have the thick, rubber "saddle" over the top (like Omers), I will assume that these are flexible and comfortable (like Sporasubs). Please respond to this inquiry as well. Thank you.
