That looked like a great day out, nice one, if that's what it's like in winter it must be fish heaven come the summer.:)

actually the winter is better for fish then the summer here, the water gets so warm many larger fish move into water that is too deep to freedive, the visibility is often better in the summer though, so it is still fun

Look like heaven. Enjoyed watching the only dreamed of conditions and fish. Love to see/hear some more.

Dave.

It looked like a fair depth that you are in there?
I know that you’ve called it “trash fish” but out of interest what are the fish that you’re shooting? They look tasty enough to me.

pretty much all the diving in the video is pretty shallow probably less then 50 foot dives

the trash fish thing, its kind of a joke, the most sought after fish where I live is the black grouper, its a challenging fish, and is very good to eat. But people go overboard hunting them, in fact some people can't seem to have a good time unless they get a black grouper.

this winter they closed the black grouper for a few months while they spawn, which kind of sucks in one way, but in the long run will probably enable us to keep hunting grouper in the future.

The videos where taken during the closed season, and all the fish shot are considered less desirable then grouper. Before the grouper closure there was a lot of doom and gloom and people saying they would not go fishing, if they could not keep grouper. Personally I had blast fishing even when not able to take the grouper.

Sounds a bit like the Bass spearing over here, it all well and good to take the top/most sought after fish but when they’re all gone people will wish they’d left a few for another time.
Top marks on the video and top marks on the spearing ethics.
Have some Rep.:)

Some nice cobia shot in that video and you shot the shit out of the jacks!

Great job on the video and loved the music choice.

Great vid. Are those Goliath groupers (jewfish) chasing the speared amberjack near the start? Is it true that since they were protected they have made a huge come back to the point of being a nuisance?

Dave.

yeah there is a fair number of jewfish now

in key west, you can dive in either the gulf or Atlantic, the Atlantic tends to be much clearer, but in the gulf the fish are often more concentrated on any bit of structure

the jewfish are very thick in the gulf, there are a bunch in the Atlantic side but not really enough to be a nuisance, at least where we live.

In the gulf side they will totally take over a piece of structure and push other fish out, they quickly learn in areas where people fish/spearfish a lot to steal fish.
