Hey all. I know this has been covered before and I did go over some old posts and get some good info but I'm still wondering.

Are soft wishbones really better than the articulated jobs I have one my gun now?

I've spoiled reloading once last holidays, the rubbers slipped out of my hands and the wishbone took off half of my right little finger. Now i use dyneema.
That is why.

were you using a glove? or does tat have no effect?

Hi everyone;

Over the past 15 years or so of spearfishing, i have had a number of accedents with broken articulated wishbones and or miss firing. I have close to a dozen scars left behind on both hands,

I have never had an injury since i shifted to soft wishbones about 2 years back.

The only down side with soft wishbones is that they wear out very quickly, the up side is you dont get hurt!

The link that Kpk posted is an excellent way of setting up the bands with an easy way to replace a broken wishbone line.

Other methods are also available, the one i use is the Stainless Steel Bridle Inserts (set).

http://www.spearfishing.com.au/fram...ww.spearfishing.com.au/shop.php?group=bridles

the advantage is that you can easily replace a broken dyneema wishbone without having to remove the inserts from the bands.

I use dyneema with screw-on-rubbers. No problem. I don't know if gloves help that much actually. Neoprene is not that strong either, plus a metre of dainihma makes some 5 wishbones for a fraction of the price for gloves. Plus, the gloves won't stand multiple band slips.
A bit of caution might solve it as well but there's always that one moment when you don't pay attention. It happened to me when i was about to get out of the water and wanted to unload the gun. Tiredness+no watchoutness=four fingers left. Simple.

(not actually, it hurt but my finger's ok again, just a scar)

im not as worried as far as slipping is concerned because i always place one hand on the wishbone while i move the other one downwards that way it wont pop out and aways use gloves because gill rakers hurt like a B****. what does worry me is that after a good 5 to 6 hours of loading my hands get tired and i might lose my grip and away goes my finger...
