Wishbones

I have some trouble with my articulated wishbone on my new gun, it doesn't fit snuggly into the notch on the spear, just managing to tighten on the very outside edge of the notch which doesn't seem to be safe, trying to rectify this meant a slashed hand (I foolishly wasn't wearing my gloves).

Is there anything I can do to sort this out?

Your problem doesnt seem safe. Im not sure why your wishbone doesnt sit along the spear... A couple questions is your spear knotched or does it have shark fin tabs? I have very little knowledge of knotched shafts so I cant comment on those. But for Shark Fins i replace the wishbone with a soft piece of spectra, or even steel wire. I almost sliced off my finger with a wishbone and a 20 mm band in hawaii, and after that i moved to spectra or wire.

I'm with you, it is a bit worrying really! I am rather fond of my fingers.

The spear has notches taken out of it for the wishbone to sit in, even when not under tension it doesn't seem to fit properly. I wonder if it would be worth filing down the notch to fit it more snuggly, does anyone know if this is the done thing?

I'm really not sure, I had wire on my old gun.

There is a grove in the top of the wishbone i have now, could someone please post a picture of how it is meant to look.

My guns all have dyneema wishbones so im not an expert when it comes to those fancy metal wishbones that come on all the new euro guns. If memory serves me correct I noticed that one side of the wishbone was curved and looked to me as if it would hug the shaft real nice but on all the guns I saw that curve was on the top and the flat part is what fit against the shaft. In short curve on the top, flat on the bottom. I hope someone corrects me if Im wrong with this one:blackeye

you can file the notch. as a matter of fact, i would recomend that you file it with a circular file, 2mm.
that way, you can switch to dynemma wishbones without cutting your wishbone. also, the metal wishbone should be somewhat thinner on the top side that faces you when you load your bands. if you fancy still using a metal wishbone, switch it to a type that seems like its made out of a single piece of wire hanger. ive failed to load my bands properly with those at times because i was rushing it, but i only ended up wit a sore pinky instead of a cut finger.
