I never thought to try eating a wolf eel before . I wouldn't normally consider it a species to target for hunting, and I haven't seen many of them anyways. But I was diving at my favorite dive spot which in a couple months will be turned into a permanent 'no take zone' so I decided to spear anything that moved. So when I saw a five foot wolf eel swim out of its hole I decided to take it home and eat it. I just cooked it with rosemary, butter, and garlic. It had a very firm meat and it tasted delicious, like fresh wild trout!
Happy Hunting!!!

Wow. In which waters did you find the tasty specimen, and how was it to clean (i.e. skin, gut, filet?). Did you eat all five feet of it?

I kind of like wolf eels... alive though... but to each his own, for there's no accounting for tastes!

Cheers,

Wolf eel is famously good, as you now have discovered. Unfortunately, they don't like it down here in the warm and I don't like it up there in the cold!

I happened upon this specimen in central coast waters, the far southern reaches of their range as I understand. It had tough skin and was a little tricky to filet:head. In retrospect, I should have cleaned it and cut it in half or thirds, wrapped it in foil with some onions, and cooked it on the grill. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!
