Dear all,

Have spearfished for 4 years. These days, I always use homemade wooden barrel with normal Undersee trigger. I have never tried aluminum or carbon barrels before.

My experience is a “loaded” speargun should be just a bit buoyant so we could hold and target fish with ease. :)

But the problem is that the wood for speargun barrel must be strictly selected and be carefully modified to fit our need so that it is very difficult to find suitable wood. :waterwork

I would appreciate if anyone could share experiences in comparison of using two different types of barrels :)

Regards,
Spearmantw

Bit confused, sorry
A comparison of what exactly? the pros and cons of the types of barrel or just the balance?

I have all wood guns and guns with wood butts and carbon fiber or titanium barrels. See examples below. I expect the same things of them- that they be balanced with the shaft in them so that there is little effort required to hold the tip level, and that they float after the shaft is released.

But is that what you were asking?

Hi there,

Thanks a lot and am terribly sorry for the confusion made.

My question is a "loaded" speargun with aluminum or carbon barrels such as Rabi or RA will float or sink in the water?

If it floats, I will try aluminum or carbon barrels next time because the wood is very difficult to acquire and takes lots of effort to modify.

Regards,

All loaded (spear engaged) euro type speargun should sink if the ballance is correct. Allu is slightly more negative than carbon. Any speargun wood or not if does not sink with loaded spear its pain in the back to use in my opinion. Even the behaviour of the gun should be adjusted according to hunting style. Lighter muzzle is much better for aspetto on the other hand heavier muzzle is good for drop/ tower style.
