Hi all with winter upon us in the uk a couple of people have mentioned speargun maintenance. I am confident in stripping down and maintaining my own spearguns (mostly rob allen) however I have been asked by someone about woody maintenance. I assume that every 2-3 years you gently sand down the wood and apply a teak oil before re-varnishing. But are the trigger mechs removable to clean and grease or are they glued/fixed into the barrel?

Many thanks

Matt

Most wooden guns are epoxy coated, so they might need sanding and re coating but only if the finish is chipped & exposing bare wood.
I would think that it is possible to remove the trigger mechanism but that would only be really necessary if you were going to recoat the whole gun.
If the gun has lots of peeling varnish then I would definitely recommend re coating using polyurethane varnish.
You can always show us a picture if need be.
