Work - what do you do for a living ?

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I'm doing a masters degree in Neurobiology. I guess I'm a scientist, but I dislike thinking of it as work - I do it out of scientific passion (and the scholarship students get here is below the minimum wage :hmm).
This entails some course work and doing research in a lab for 30-70 hours a week.
I work on a few different projects, but in general I'm doing diffusion-MRI scans on rats, trying to look at the connection between micro-structures in the brain and behavioural/pathological parameters.
I will likely continue to PhD studies in the same field next year.

Any other scientists our there?

Oh boy, do I remember the graduate student/slave labor gig; you have my sympathy. Just don't let'em beat your soul to mush in the process. I saw that happen to way too many PhD students. Freediving should keep you sane and remind you that there is life outside the lab.

What the...?? Three years? Who is grave digging?

Foxfish? :hmm

I'm still a lake biologist. Although, I'm considering starting a Ponzi scheme - looks like a pretty sweet gig.

Hey Hudasmt, Which recording system are you using in your work area? It looks like Pro Tools 7.2. So cool :inlove I think I know what you mean when you say you feel like a slave, what looks like a fun job can quickly consume all your time.

That must be one of those man-made islands. The scale of those projects blows my mind - the crazy engineering it takes to keep them from falling apart.

Actually its not part of the World or the Palm. It started out as a sand bank in Abu Dhabi, and was dredged to make a little bigger. Initially it was going to be a private island with just one villa, but the plan changed $$$$$

Im not sure what I do for a living, still dont know what I want to be when I grow up:blackeye

So far i am a
Cabinet builder, framer, finish carpenter, photographer, graphic designer, owner and operator of a one of a kind ice cream business, professional diver, marine naturalist.... and the list goes on.

Its funny but I still find time to dive 2 or 3 times a week! Plus Im getting married in a month... Im hoping to be a stay at home husband... the dad thing can come later!

Where in Abu Dhabi is this island?

I build things, all sorts of things for all sorts of people, this is what I have been building lately ......a nice koi pond...

Interesting Foxy, nice pond. If you come accross anything watery that is a little too big, let me know!

Cool I will let you know mate.. I have been involved in a few lake projects myself, one was about a 100,000 gal natural pond, clay lined & the other a liner & concrete job about 120,000 gal!
I really only specialise in koi pond construction though but unfortunately most of my clients don't want their properties displayed on the net!

Good stuff. We don't get involved with koi ponds so much because there are people like yourself who specialise in that area.

Keep up the good work!
